“Snow Piercer”, the English-language debut from “The Host” and “Mother” director Bong Joon-ho has added another piece to its already stellar cast. Sick Boy himself, Ewen Bremner (“Trainspotting”, “Strike Back”), has joined the cast that already includes Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, John Hurt, and Octavia Spencer. Bremner will play a father that teams up with Evans in order to rescue his kidnapped son.
Based on a French graphic novel “Le Transperceneige”, “Snow Piercer” takes place in a snowbound post-apocalyptic world where a group of survivors endlessly rides a train in circles, trying to cope with the destruction of civilization and their living situation.
Bong wrote the script, which is being reworked by Kelly Masterson (“Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead”). Park Chan-wook (“Oldboy”, “Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance”) is producing the indie picture for his fellow Korean, and production is scheduled to begin soon, like in March soon.
I’m ready to climb on board “Snow Piercer” simply because of the people involved. Put the names Bong and Park on anything and I’ll watch it. A solid cast and the fact that it is a post-apocalyptic story set in a confined, highly volatile environment, only enhance my anticipation. Not set to come out until 2013, “Snow Piercer” is already one of those movies I get giddy just thinking about.
