Excellent New X-Men: First Class Banner/Poster/Quad/Thingie

Brand new poster for Matthew Vaugn’s “X-Men: First Class” courtesy of The Geek Files. I haven’t a clue what you call this thing, since it’s pretty damn wide, and I can’t see it fitting on anything in the real world, but it sure looks cool. Check it out below, and click on the image to enlarge.

From left, we have Moira MacTaggert (Rose Byrne), Raven Darkholme aka Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Erik Lehnsherr aka Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and then, on the other side of the jet, Janos Quested aka Riptide (Alex Gonzalez), Emma Frost (January Jones), Sebastian Shaw (Kevin Bacon) and the red-skinned teleporter Azazel (Jason Flemyng).

The site also has an advance look at the upcoming DVD box set release of “First Class”, which is scheduled for sometime in October. Yeah, I had no idea the studio folks thought this far ahead, either, but apparently they do.

The muties save the day June 3, 2011.

Thanks to Mike for the heads up.

That other dude in the Hellfire Club is Riptide?!!?!? Wha, wha, what?! I was hoping that if they couldn’t get the X-Men right for ‘The First Class’ the’d at least give us the correct Hellfire Club after recasting White Queen and acting like she never appeared in X-Men Origins:Wolverine. I assumed he was going to be playing either Shinobi Shaw, a re-imagined Donald Pierce or Harry Leland or at the least maybe Fabian Cortez or Trevor Fitzroy. It looks like not only is Fox ruining the original X-Men line up they’ll be doing the same with a classic villain stable as well.

yeah how come beast is the only real first class member (apart from the professor), where is cyclops, Marvel girl, Iceman and Angel

Not comic continuity. He’s going with a group that eventually leads into the original film. However he said Storm and Scott were some of hi first students. Then again Xavier has been known to hide alot from his students, so he could’ve omitted this stuff entirely because it didnt end well.

I dont know why you even thought they would even go with the original team once it was established this was a prequel. Cant just erase the continuity they created in the first three movies and if its not a reboot. SO they had to swap and come up with their own stuff. I don’t have an issue simply because Fox already messed with continuity to begin with so now they just have to keep going with this new one. It’s like cartoon shows, they arent exactly like the comic either (but can be closer to them because of the medium), I always look at CBMs as an alternate take or universe, not an extension or a live action representation of the comics themselves.

I agree to an extent. We’ve had this conversation a few times now. LOL.
I just don’t see a reason to change things just to change them. I know that this is a different medium and this is the first class that was put together for the Fox/movie version of the X-Men and I’m actually fine with that. Although as you said Xavier did make reference to Cyclops and Storm being some of his first students. As was Beast. Then there was the X-Men Origins: Wolverine debacle where they used a younger Cyclops, Emma Frost and Storm (among others). I was cool with that. I even rationed in my mind that Xavier may have mind swiped Wolverine’s existence from Storm and the other kids at the facility. And Cyclops never sees Logan because of the inhibitor and I was okay with that. I was even okay with them totally glossing over the entire inclusion of Emma in that film and using her as an older? villain! But really for all of that just use different villains!!! Come on man! If they were going to change anyone in the Hellfire Club it should be Emma or Shaw since both of them were characters in the first three X-Men films and the spin off that was Origins. Throwing in Riptide is just Bryan Singer saying, “OOh I like him let’s throw him in here too!” It’s crap. I even set aside the inclusion of Azazel in the Hellfire Club because it is a prequel and it links to the appearance of Nightcrawler in the second film. Just like having Havok in here alludes to Cyclops. But how much are we as fans supposed to swallow. I suppose that I’ll just need to take it for what it is and go with it. I just don’t think that I should have to. In a world where we reboot characters after a few years they should have delivered a true First Class with the real Hellfire Club. There are a few reasons that these movies do so well. One of them is the fan base of the subject matter. I grew up on these characters as did you and most of the people who bother to express themselves on these posts. I think that we deserve a bit more than this. Just my opinion.

I agree that we do, but the fact of the matter is Fox still holds the rights and changes have already been made so any new ones shouldn’t surprise you. Mixing and matching works to a point. But yeah its like they’re not thinking storywise how it will work. I have a friend that we used to talk fantasy comic ideas and stuff and he’d put people together on a team just cause he thought it was cool but with no real reason. Not good storytelling at all.

          Sent on the go.

Yeah! That is what I’m against! Let’s throw Gambit, in a Wolverine origin movie?!?! Let’s put Havok in a first class movie as Cyclops’ dad?! While we’re at it let’s make Riptide a part of the Hellfire Club!? It makes no sense at all. I understand that Havok, Banshee, Riptide and Darwin have cool mutant powers but really what binds these characters together??? Oh well.

          • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool

Xavier binds them together. See that’s the story part of it. I like that he chose random mutants for this first class, cause he really could’ve just gone with the second team (Banshee, Thunderbird, etc) as the first class, but instead he went with characters that could bring something to the table storywise and picked and chose throughout time. Technically Darwin was on an X-Team before Havok in the comics. It may seem random, but I think there is a slight method to the madness. Like you said certain characters are lmot making up for the fact that they cant use others like Havok for Cyclops.

@Dedpool- I get that. I understand that they are trying to go outside the standard routine and bring in characters that maybe nobody has ever heard of like Darwin or Angel Salvadore. There can be a balance though. Obviosly any aproach to mending these mistakes now is futile. I’m just of the opinion that they should have takeb this opportunity to go back to the original stuff instead of further complicating things.

    • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool

I agree with that 100%. A reboot of the franchise was almost necesarry. Plus the only thing still going from that original franchise is Wolverine which can stand alone. I really think they should’ve gone back to the beginning with the original five, and still had the period setting (though i would’ve used the 80s)
