I have to admit, years of playing first-person shooter games like the “Call of Duty” franchise has made me want to get back into more laid-back games like, say, the “Grand Theft Auto” series. (I hear there’s a new one coming out. Eventually.) Okay, maybe not so much “laid-back”, but definitely less of the “10 minutes of adrenaline insanity” of your traditional COD multiplayer online matches. With that in mind, maybe Square Enix’s “Sleeping Dogs” is exactly what I need. The game looks like a mixture of “Max Payne” and “Grand Theft Auto”, though I’m not too sure about the “GTA”-ish components. The “Max Payne” elements, though, they’ve apparently got in spades if the trailer and featurette for the game below are any indication.
- A mature and gritty undercover cop drama, set in a high tension underworld where every action is a risk that could blow your cover.
- Seamless explosive action fueled by a mix of deadly martial arts, intense gunfights and brutal takedowns.
- Epic high-speed thrills: Burn up the streets as you ram other cars and drive recklessly while shooting your way through the narrow streets of Hong Kong.
- Hong Kong is your playground: Enter illegal races, gamble on cock fights, or kick back with some karaoke. There are countless ways to explore the varied districts of the city.
“Sleeping Dogs” lands on the PS3 and PC in two days, August 14, 2012. The game features the voices of Edison Chen, James Hong, Kelly Hu, Yunjin Kim, and Will Yun Lee, so they definitely didn’t go cheap with the voice actors here.
