Bruce Willis and Jai Courtney, as father and son McClanes, take no prisoners in “A Good Day to Die Hard”, kicking off the New Year in fine style. Okay, so it’s a month after the new years. Close enough. Anyways, the John Moore-directed film looks like, ahem, a blast. I’ll grant you that the whole “giving him a kid to rejuvenate the series” is such a cliche, but at least they didn’t give McClane some annoying brat of a teenage son. McClane Jr. is all grown up and playing a spy in this one.

Check out the first two TV spots for “A Good Day to Die Hard” in all their explosive glory.

Bruce Willis is back as iconoclastic, take-no-prisoners cop John McClane, who for the first time finds himself on foreign soil after traveling to Moscow to help his wayward son Jack (Jai Courtney) — unaware that Jack is really a highly-trained CIA operative out to stop a nuclear weapons heist. With the Russian underworld in pursuit, and battling a countdown to war, the two McClanes discover their opposing methods make them unstoppable heroes.

Also starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Amaury Nolasco, Cole Hauser, Sebastian Koch, Aksel Hennie, and Julia Snigir.

Blowing ‘em up February 14, 2013.

Him having a never before mentioned son isn’t that big a leap. I mean one, the man was estranged from his family for the series after the second film, and two, he’s old enough to have been pretty much out of the picture and on his own for most of those as well. That said I was leary of this until the casting. This looks like fun.

Actually, McClane’s son briefly appeared in the first Die Hard shortly before the phone call Holly made to their daughter Lucy. So, he’s not exactly a new character, he just has a first major role in the Die Hard franchise.

The action bits look fun and Jay Courtney playing Mc Clane´s son was well cast. I just hope the old wise cracking, cursing Mc Clane will be back and the movie turns out to be more fun than the last.
