He’s British, he’s smart-alecky, and he’s here to save the world in NBC’s new show “Constantine,” based on the D.C. comic book character. If the name sounds familiar, it’s also the title of the 2005 Keanu Reeves movie, except this time Constantine is actually played by an Englishman. The difference is pretty astounding, to say the least.
In the show, Matt Ryan stars as the titular John Constantine, who we’re told is “a man struggling with his faith is haunted by the sins of his past but is suddenly thrust into the role of defending humanity from the gathering forces of darkness.”
The pilot for “Constantine” was directed by the bloody good Neil Marshall (“Dog Soldiers,” “The Descent”) and you can check out an extended 3-minute trailer for the upcoming series below. From what I can tell, this version of Constantine doesn’t take a single puff. Not even from an electronic cigarette! Weird.
“Constantine” co-stars Harold Perrineau, Lucy Griffiths, Charles Halford, Miles Anderson, and Julia Lehman.
The show premieres this Fall on NBC.
