It seems like Bryan Singer is bringing back pretty much everyone who has ever been in an “X-Men” movie for his “X-Men: Days of Future Past”, even people who are supposed to be dead. One person you can expect not to see in the film, though, is Famke Janssen, who played Jean Grey in the three “X-Men” movies and reprises the role in James Mangold’s upcoming “The Wolverine”.
While at the UK premiere of “The Wolverine”, Janssen was asked about her (lack of) participation in “DOFP”, and from the sounds of it, she was never even asked back. She tells something called BANG Showbiz:
I do feel a little bit like I’m missing out on the party. They’re all my old friends. I wasn’t invited to the party. But then, you know, they weren’t invited to ‘The Wolverine’ party and I was. So there!
Would she come back later down the road if the role opened up again? Yes, but she sounds doubtful it’ll happen anytime soon:
When I got this phone call [for 'The Wolverine'] I hoped it would pave the way to new appearances, but the problem, of course, is, there’s so many incredible ‘X-Men’ characters to explore on the female side – and male side – so why would they pick me in the future? I don’t know if they will.
Yes, I know Jean Grey died at the end of “X-Men: The Last Stand”, but it’s not like that’s ever stopped anyone from coming back in a comic book (or a comic book movie) before. Didn’t Professor X died, too?
But at least we’ll be seeing more of Janssen as Jean Grey in “The Wolverine”, even if she is just a figment of ol Logan’s imagination.
