In lieu of actual movie news (short on that today, alas), here’s the latest cover of Entertainment Weekly featuring a buff Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. You gotta wonder how much longer he can continue playing the mutant who never ages. Jackman is already 44, and although dude is in ridiculously good shape, if he can get another “Wolverine” movie made in, say, a few years, he’d be well into his late ’40s. Then what? A reboot, obviously. Don’t be surprise when you start hearing sites getting “exclusives” about a “Wolverine” reboot in, say, 3-4 years from now. You heard it here first! Until then, here’s the cover. And in case you missed it, here’s the latest trailer for the movie: “The Wolverine” stars Hugh Jackman, Brian Tee, Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Rila Fukushima, James Fraser, Tao Okamoto, Hal Yamanouchi, and is directed by James Mangold. Snikting it this July 26, 2013. Get more images and videos in

At the Microsoft shindig yesterday where Microsoft unveiled their brand new gaming console that they’re hoping will replace not just their old Xbox, but every other console out there (the rather uninspiring Xbox One), there were also some news of interest to TV and movie fans. Of note, Steven Spielberg showed up to announce that he would be producing a live-action TV series based on the “Halo” game. “Halo”, of course, is an Xbox-exclusive game, meaning if you wanted to play “Halo”, you needed an Xbox. Says Spielberg: For me, the ‘Halo’ universe is an amazing opportunity to be at the intersection where technology and storytelling meet. Of course, just what Spielberg “producing” means is anybody’s guess. He could actually have a big impact on the finished product by developing the content and even directing an episode or two, or he could just be selling his name to the show the way J.J. Abrams “produces” everything on TV these days.

Still not a big fan of cars going around a closed race track, but hey, whatever turns you crazy kids on. Check out a new trailer for Ron Howard’s “Rush”, starring Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth. The secret of car racing, apparently, is tricking yourself into believing that dying is what happens to the other guy and not to you. Or something like that. Me, I think it’s just that chicks dig cars that go fast. I could be wrong, of course. The epic action-drama stars Chris Hemsworth as the charismatic Englishman James Hunt and Daniel Brühl as the disciplined Austrian perfectionist Niki Lauda, whose clashes on the Grand Prix racetrack epitomized the contrast between these two extraordinary characters, a distinction reflected in their private lives. Set against the sexy and glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing, Rush portrays the exhilarating true story of two of the greatest rivals the world has ever witnessed—handsome English playboy Hunt and his methodical,

From low-budget (or moderately budget, I guess would be the better, more appropriate term) to big-budget movies about cars “fighting” on the streets? That’s apparently what “The Conjuring” director James Wan is going for when he buckles up for the latest “Fast and Furious” movie. It’s a pretty strange jump for the guy who directed not just this upcoming “The Conjuring”, but also “Insidious” and the “Saw” films. Then again, I guess when the studio comes to you and asks you to helm a sure-fire blockbuster hit, you don’t say No unless you’re kinda a numbskull. James Wan, it turns out, is not a numbskull. Anyways. Check out the latest poster for Wan’s “The Conjuring” (above). Trailer below in case you missed it the first time ’round.
See Frodo go bad in a new trailer for Franck Khalfoun’s “Maniac”, which will be making its Stateside debut on all your favorite VOD outlets next month. Yes, you’ll be able to watch the good guy go totally bad in the comforts of your home, which means you can elect to watch this movie while wearing your hobbit outfit and no one will judge you for it. Well, except the guy looking back at you in the mirror, which seems to be a major motif with “Maniac”, given that the entire movie takes place entirely from Frodo’s eyes. Check out the new theatrical trailer for “Maniac” below. You’ll never watch “Lord of the Rings” without expecting Frodo to spin around and stab Sam in the face ever again.
Watching his films, you might get the impression that director Noah Baumbach is a dyed in the wool pessimist. While movies like “Greenberg,” “The Squid and the Whale,” and my personal favorite, the underrated “Kicking and Screaming,” have sharp bitter edges, his latest, “Frances Ha,” is his most hopeful, least combative work to date. The fact that this is collaboration with star Greta Gerwig might have something to do with that, and the events are largely autobiographical on her side of the equation. If a purportedly true-to-life tale about aimless upper middle class twenty-somethings striving to find direction in their lives makes you want to run screaming for the hills, then by all means, avoid “Frances Ha” like a pox-ridden leper. Because that’s exactly what this movie is, and it embodies the inherent positives and negatives in such a scenario. At the core, the story is about friendship, chiefly between Frances (Gerwig) and her college BFF Sophie (Mickey Sumner), and

In case you couldn’t handle the Red Band trailer for the horror anthology sequel “V/H/S/2″ that Magnet Releasing released not too long ago, here’s the SFW version of the trailer. I never saw the first movie, but apparently the sequel follows the same formula, with a bunch of horror shorts bookmarked by a “story” involving VHS cassette tapes. Who even has VHS players anymore? I don’t think stores even sell these things, right? Try it. Go to your nearest store and see if they still sell VCR players. Until then, check out the SFW trailer for “V/H/S/2″. It’s VHS-rific. Searching for a missing student, two private investigators break into his abandoned house and find another collection of mysterious VHS tapes. In viewing the horrific contents of each cassette, they realize there may be terrifying motives behind the student’s disappearance. Featuring horror shorts by Simon Barrett, Adam Wingard, Edúardo Sanchez, Gregg Hale, Timo Tjahjanto, Gareth Huw Evans, and Jason Eisener, and

This, I believe, is the second comedy where former “Friends” sweetheart Jennifer Aniston gets down and dirty for the sake of her comedy. The last time we saw her, she was deepthroating a weiner in “Horrible Bosses”. Er, you know, a hotdog. Here, she’s playing a dirty cheap stripper. Rachel’s keeping in pretty good shape, too. Check out the Red Band trailer for the pot comedy “We’re the Millers”, starring that guy from “Saturday Night Live” and that guy from “The Hangover” and the girl from the last “Scream” movie. And, of course, Jennifer Aniston. It actually looks pretty funny, and doesn’t look like the same-o-same-o “pot comedy”. It’s kind of like a family road trip movie … with an RV full of pot. And bulging balls.
Originally announced as a potential remake way back in 2007, with little progress until 2010, it’s since taken Universal three more years to finally move forward on that planned reboot the 1994 Jean-Claude Van Damme sci-fi actioner “Timecop”. I wasn’t a big fan of this planned reboot 6 years ago, but I have to admit, I’m liking the idea more in 2013. It has been almost 20 years, after all, and I can see a better script and director (and more money) turning out a pretty good sci-fi actioner. It’s still early yet, with Universal looking for a writer to help them out. That probably means 2 or 3 more years of development for the reboot, so it’s still a mighty long ways off. The original was directed by Peter Hyams, and starred JCVD as a futuristic cop who goes around locking up bad guys using time travel to go back in time and do, well, bad things.
If you were still clinging to the wacky notion that the “Fast and Furious” franchise is somehow connected to the real world, you should have that silly idea slapped free when the first character in the movie flies through the air. Yes, I said the first character in the movie flies through the air. Like Superman, only more invincible. “Fast and Furious 6″, the latest entry in the car racing turned caper film franchise, is just as daft as the previous installment, which as you’ll recall ended with Dom and Brian dragging a giant vault between their two vehicles as they set about destroying half of Downtown Rio de Janeiro. But I have to draw the line somewhere. “Grown Ups 2″ is my breaking point. The new international trailer you see embedded below never comes close to approaching hilarity. The clip is amusing only because it makes me cringe. Most of the people involved with the flick are better than this, so it’s a shame to see their talents go to waste. I won’t mention any names. I’ll let you figure it out for yourselves. This is the plot: The all-star comedy cast from Grown Ups returns (with some exciting new additions) for more summertime laughs. Well here’s the trailer, and I gotta say, I thought it was going to be some depressing arthouse nonsense (isn’t that what most actors do when they try their hand at directing? arthouse nonsense?), but turns out it’s, well, a comedy, I guess. About a guy who gets all these hot girls (including Scarlett Johansson), but is still addicted to good ol fashion porn. Cause, you know, he’s a guy. That’s what we do, ladies.
Hopefully you haven’t gotten your fill of Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel” yet, especially after that very epic latest trailer. In case you haven’t, check out even more new images (and some old ones) from “Man of Steel”, this time in pretty decent hi-res quality. In case I haven’t said it before (or you missed it the first time), but this is easily THE movie of 2013 for me. It has the potential to be even better than ol shellhead’s third outing. Will it make nearly as much money, though? That is in some doubt. After all, Tony Stark has the personality that Superman will never have. Will that matter at the box office? Let’s all find out together this Summer, shall we? Clark Kent/Kal-El is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here?

FAST AND FURIOUS 6 SPOILERS BELOW According to Vin Diesel, the undisputed star of Universal’s ensemble “Fast and Furious” franchise, the next (and 7th) installment in the lucrative vehicle series will be returning to the streets of Los Angeles. Diesel made the announcement to fans gathered at a party for “Fast and Furious 6′s” Los Angeles premiere last night, which was attended by the domed one and his co-stars from the film, along with part 7′s new director, James Wan. Diesel was quoted as saying the following: I told the Universal people there was no way we were not having a Los Angeles premiere. One other thing: For ‘Fast and Furious 7,’ we are bringing it back to Los Angeles! This is interesting, especially given the ending of “Fast and Furious 6″, which finally bridged the gap between “The Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift” (the third in the series) and the rest of the franchise, and made me think part

Roughly 24 hours after a the official US poster for director Edgar Wright’s “The World’s End” arrived here at Beyond Hollywood, the official trailer for the flick has been released. And what a fine clip it is, too. That might just be my inner Edgar Wright fanboy talking, but I’m actually quite excited to check this one out in theaters. If you knew how much I hate going to theaters these days, then you’d realize just how substantial that is. In case you haven’t heard, the film stars Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Rosamund Pike, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine, and Eddie Marsan as a group of friends who reunite after several years to embark on the ultimate pub crawl. Not surprisingly, it doesn’t take very long for things to go wrong. Thankfully, their mishaps appear to be quite entertaining. An official synopsis, if you please: 20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them

Like it or not, “The Human Centipede 3″ is happening. A little ass-to-mouth action is expected to take place in the fine city of Los Angeles this Friday (May 24). After a series of delays complicated production, it would seem that Tom Six’s third installment of the controversial franchise is back on track. To sweeten the deal this time around, Six said he too will star in the next “Human Centipede” flick. I guess that’s supposed to be impressive and/or shocking. In my opinion, that all depends on how much butt he sucks in the movie. Dieter Laser (“The Human Centipede”) and Laurence R. Harvey (“The Human Centipede 2″) will return for the third entry. However, it’s believed that they will play different characters for the second sequel. What’s more, the new movie will reportedly feature a 500-person centipede. It remains to be seen if this will be done with live actors or CGI. To be perfectly honest, I loved

God may forgive, but movie critics aren’t that kind. After his breakthrough Hollywood hit “Drive”, you’d think critics would be falling all over themselves to be the first ones to praise Nicolas Winding Refn’s follow-up, the Bangkok-set “Only God Forgives”, which once again stars his new BFF Ryan Gosling as a foreigner in Thailand who takes on the underworld in order to avenge the murder of his brother. It’s a bloody vendetta, as it turns out. Too much, perhaps, for some critics. The Wrap has a nice selection of the more scathing reviews delivered upon the film after its recent Cannes screening. They were, er, not forgiving. The Wrap’s own Sasha Stone writes: What his film amounts to, in the end, is the careful work of a serial killer. Refn isn’t literally killing women, but he’s indulging in one bloody killing after another, and practically licking the knife afterwards. Oh, come on, a serial killer? It couldn’t possibly be that

Vince Vaughn plays a slacker/loser who finds out he’s the proud daddy of a bunch of kids that were born because someone made a mistake somewhere. Now all his kids want to find out who he is, which, apparently, is something he doesn’t want. Because, you know, he’s a slacker/loser and all. Plus, he’s Vince Vaughn. Check out the first teaser trailer for Ken Scott’s “Delivery Man”. It actually looks pretty funny, even though the teaser is very short. Rife for comedy, as they say. Bonus points: The film co-stars Cobie Smulders, who played Maria Hill in Marvel’s “The Avengers”, and also Chris Pratt, who has just signed up to star in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy”. So, two Marvel actors for the price of one, kids! An affable underachiever finds out he’s fathered 533 children through anonymous donations to a fertility clinic 20 years ago. Now he must decide whether or not to come forward when 142 of them

Thor’s little brother Liam Hemsworth, who can currently be seen in the “Hunger Games” franchise as the third wheel in the Katniss-Peeta adventures, will next be stepping out of the shadows to front his own movie as the star of Relativity’s “Aurora Rising”, based on a script by Christian Gudegast. The Aussie actor will play “a Southern California surfer turned military fighter pilot who, after acing a complicated and messy first combat mission, gets recruited to be part of an elite team to test the next generation of aircraft. This happens just as an international conflict begins to escalate.” Sounds a bit like “Top Gun”. With surfboards. If Hemsworth is ever going to match (or even surpass) big brother in the Hollywood movie star game, this might be his big chance. Of course, no one’s going to flock to see this thing for “that other Hemsworth”. The material has to be aces. Like “Top Gun” aces.
The studio has released yet another trailer for Gore Verbinski’s “The Lone Ranger”. I can’t say if there’s any new footage here, though maybe the voiceover narration is a bit different. Probably. Not really all that much you haven’t seen before, to be perfectly honest with you, so feel free to just ignore this one. I won’t call ya out on it. Promise. From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the filmmaking team behind the blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, comes Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ “The Lone Ranger,” a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes.
