There is “Steve Jobs” and there is “Jobs”. Both are upcoming 2013 movies about the late Apple co-founder who gave us the iPhone and all manner of devices we can’t live without today. (If you can go a day without using your smartphone, you’re a better man than I. And probably unemployed.) The difference between those two movies? “Jobs” will star Ashton Kutcher as Jobs, while “Steve Jobs” now has “West Wing” creator Aaron Sorkin attached to adapt the book of the same name by Walter Isaacson. Sorkin has been attached to the film since 2011, but it was made official today by Sony head honcho Amy Pascal. Says Pascal: Steve Jobs’ story is unique: he was one of the most revolutionary and influential men not just of our time but of all time. There is no writer working in Hollywood today who is more capable of capturing such an extraordinary life for the screen than Aaron Sorkin; in his

Up first will be the book “There Are No Spies”: NOVEMBER MAN tells the tale of an ex-CIA operative who is brought back in on a very personal mission and finds himself pitted against his former pupil in a deadly game involving high level CIA officials and the Russian president-elect. The film is scheduled to start shooting in October on location in Berlin. Brosnan will co-star and also produce, with Roger Donaldson directing from a script by Michael Finch (“Predators”) and Karl Gajdusek (“Trespass”). Donaldson previously directed Brosnan on the 1997 killer volcano flick “Dante’s Peak”, in case you don’t recall. (Remember the dueling Killer Volcano movies? So when I was given the opportunity to pick apart the genius of writer Ross Patterson — also known in certain circles as Saint James St. James — I felt it was my duty to the world to explore the inner workings of his mind. And if you haven’t seen “Poolboy: Drowning Out the Fury”, then you should stop what you’re doing and immediately atone for your sins. Plus: Kevin Sorbo and Mark Curry. That’s too fly. I’ve gotta know: What came first, Saint James St. James or Poolboy?
ABC has released their 2012 Fall Primetime line-up, and along with the old, there are the new faces. Out of those new faces, there are four shows you may want to keep an eye out on. A couple look pretty good (“666 Park Avenue” looks sexy as hell), though the military drama “Last Resort” is really the only one we’ve been covering for a while now on the site. The other two don’t look too bad, though “Zero Hour”, with former “ER” alum Anthony Edwards, looks painfully generic. Of the four, only two have firm premiere dates, which are noted. Up first, “Red Widow” with Radha Mitchell as a mob wife who seeks revenge for her mob husband’s murder. I believe this is Mitchell’s first foray into regular TV work, though I could be wrong. Co-starring Luke Goss.
I must be the only critic in America who thinks that while Rupert Wyatt’s “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” was good, it wasn’t great. Or at least, it didn’t deserve all the critical acclaim it’s gotten. I mean, it was a decent movie, with great mo-cap work by Andy Serkis, but for me it was a one-battle sequence movie, and didn’t we already see most of that bridge battle in the trailers? In any case, my lack of appreciation of “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” notwithstanding, I have to admit that it did leave a great big hole for a sequel. Something that 20th Century Fox is now prepared to take advantage of, as the studio has tapped Scott Burns to pen them a follow-up. The first movie, after all, was a prequel to how the whole “apes taking over the planet” got started. By the end, it was clear we still had a long way

With the Green Goliath smashing bad guys in Joss Whedon’s mammoth hit “The Avengers”, it only stands to reason that the Hulk is getting lots of renewed interest. Marvel has all but confirmed that they’re still on tap to do a new “Hulk” movie in the coming years, and ABC has now told journos that they, too, are still in development with Guillermo del Toro’s “Hulk” TV show. According to network President Paul Lee, the Del Toro-developed “Hulk” wasn’t quite ready to move beyond development in 2012, so it’ll have to wait for 2013 to move forward. The network, which is owned by Disney, which also owns Marvel, has all the incentive it needs to get a “Hulk” TV show out there — Whedon’s “The Avengers”, in which the Hulk plays a crucial part (not to mention his crowd-pleasing antics), is rolling in dough right now, and ABC would be wise to strike while the iron is still hot. Plus, fat American tourists think he’s a terrorist because he’s Middle Eastern-looking. Score! Check out an extended 4-minute clip from Cohen’s “The Dictator”, taking over movie screens everywhere this Friday. So what’s it all about? It’s the heroic story of a dictator who risks his life and limbs to ensure that democracy will never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed. Cause he’s good that way. He’s also an actor and has won many movie awards. Plus, he pays Megan Fox for sex. Double score! Anyhoo. The film co-stars Anna Faris, John C. Reilly, Ben Kingsley, B.J. Novak, Kevin Corrigan, Megan Fox, J.B. Smoove, and is directed by Larry Charles. The Dictator comes to America May 16, 2012. Get more images and videos in our “The

Not only the ladies themselves, but the prospect of the ladies together. And I mean together together. If you know what I mean, and I think you do. Check out some official images from the film, which is currently doing the Cannes Cannes dance over there in Frogland. The offices of a prominent multinational corporation is the setting for this story of a power struggle between two contemporary women. Isabelle has unlimited admiration for her direct superior, Christine, a woman well-schooled in the ways of power. What that little synopsis neglects to mention is that our band of 20-something pretty people isn’t just trapped in a supermarket with killer sharks thanks to a killer tsunami, but there’s also a gun-toting maniac who was robbing the joint moments before all that happen. So basically: tsunami, supermarket, gun-toting bad guy, and sharks. I shit you not. Check out the first full trailer for Kimble Rendall’s “Bait”. (I totally made that saying up, too.) Check out your first look at Tommy Lee Jones as General Douglas MacArthur and former “Lost” star Matthew Fox as General Bonner Fellers. FYI: My high school was named after MacArthur. That’s neither here nor there, but I thought I’d just toss that in there. Sharing is fun, kids. “Emperor” is set after the Japanese surrender at the end of WWII, and follows Fox’s General Fellers as he’s tasked with deciding if Emperor Hirohito will be hanged as a war criminal. Influencing his ruling is his quest to find Aya (Eriko Hatsune), an exchange student he met years earlier in the U.S. The emperor arrives in theaters sometime in

Holy crap, this is awesome. Check out a 3-minute parody of Gareth Evans’ slambang actioner “The Raid”, only starring … claymation cats. It’s even more awesome than it sounds, let me assure you. No real spoilers in case you’re worried. He mostly follows the beats of the trailers. The whole thing was made by Lee Hardcastle, whose motto is apparently, “I make claymation that isn’t for children”. And that’s pretty accurate. These aren’t just some badass claymation cats, these are some incredibly violent claymation cats. If you like what you see, you can get more of Harcastle’s work at his YouTube Channel or follow his future projects on Facebook. Here’s the original “The Raid” trailer just for comparison

You can add Megalyn Echikunwoke and former “Prison Break” star Amaury Nolasco to the cast of the latest “Die Hard” movie, “A Good Day to Die Hard”. Bruce Willis returning for the fifth time around as New York supercop John McClane, who this time around finds himself in Russia battling Russian villains intent on doing, you know, bad stuff. But this time one McClane won’t be enough to save the day, so our hero teams up with his estranged son Jack (“Spartacus’” Jai Courtney) for twice the Die Hard power. Nolasco, last seen in the much-derided cross-dressing sitcom “Work It”, will get some of his dignity back by playing a pal of Willis’ John McClane, and appears early in the film. Meanwhile, “House of Lies” actress Echikunwoke’s role is unknown. But being that she’s purty, I’m guessing she’ll be the love interest for Courtney’s Jack McClane. I could be wrong, of course. Besides Willis and Courtney, the cast also includes

Can’t wait for Marc Webb’s version of “The Amazing Spider-Man”? Well you’ll just have to wait a little longer, buddy. The movie doesn’t open until July 3, 2012, when the kids are all out of school. What a coincidence! Until then, check out the 4-minute super duper preview that Sony has been promising for the last two weeks. I think we can all agree that it was definitely worth the wait. And look, now we know who C. Thomas Howell is playing in the movie! Some dude with a kid, as it turns out. Hunh. The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his

Before I jump into my review for writer/director Chris Wojcik’s low-budget gem “Rise of the Animals”, I would like to take a moment to address the DVD artwork. Although I’ve been told by certain individuals that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, in some cases, that’s all you’ve got. For instance, when you see a picture of a squirrel eating an eyeball on the cover of a DVD, you should get a squirrel eating an eyeball. It’s really that simple. Maybe I blinked and missed it. Maybe the disc I rented decided to skip over the scene in question. I wouldn’t be surprised. However, I don’t think this is the case. What kind of world do we live in when a guy can’t see a squirrel eating an eyeball in a low-budget motion picture? In case you were wondering, “Rise of the Animals” isn’t the next “Birdemic”. Although the special effects are downright laughable — you either get

There are currently two “Die Hard in the White House” movies churning in Hollywood at the moment (Hollywood loves their dueling studio projects, in case you didn’t know), both concerning Secret Service agents at the wrong place at the right time. The wrong place would be the White House, and the right time would be when paramilitary baddies decide to take it over. (Doesn’t say much for White House security, does it? Apparently all you need to knock over the Prez’s adobe is a handful of guys with guns.) Gerard Butler is already attached to “Olympus has Fallen” (with director Antoine Fuqua “circling”), and now it looks like he might have to battle G.I. Joe’s Duke for the privilege of saving the White House, because Channing Tatum is now in talks to headline “White House Down”. “White House Down” was written by James Vanderbilt and sold to Sony for an obscene amount of dollars (this is still 2012 and the

You might have noticed that gritty action movie heroes without names has become very popular lately. Dwayne Johnson’s Driver in “Faster”, Ryan Gosling’s Driver in “Drive”, and Mel Gibson’s Driver in “Get the Gringo” (gee, I’m sensing a pattern here). And now you can add Scott Adkins’ The Man in Eduardo Rodriguez’s “El Gringo”. When you think about it (though perhaps you shouldn’t, since it’s entirely pointless), this entire “not giving your hero a name” thing is just odd. I guess if you’re a screenwriter, it saves time not having to think up a cool name for your hero. Then again, although the hero doesn’t have a name, everyone else in the movie usually does. So yeah, you figure it out. In any case, “El Gringo” (not to be mistaken with the aforementioned “Get The Gringo” with Mel Gibson, which is also about a criminal white guy running off to Mexico with ill-got cash), stars Adkins as a former cop

Take a look at the first extended trailer for Fox’s new serial killer show from “Scream” creator Kevin Williamson, since titled “The Following”. It took them so long to come up with the title, now that I’ve heard what the title is, I sort of wish they had taken a longer time with it. Really, guys? “The Following”? Meh. Anyways, the show looks good, though. The cast is certainly powerhouse enough, with Kevin Bacon as a retired FBI agent pulled back in when James Purefoy, the serial killer he caught, escapes. Don’t you hate it when that happens? Edge-of-your-seat thriller THE FOLLOWING, created by Kevin Williamson (“Dawson’s Creek,” “Scream” franchise) and starring Golden Globe Award-winning Kevin Bacon (“X-Men,” “Frost/Nixon”) and James Purefoy (“Rome”), premieres in midseason. The spellbinding and intense drama follows an ex-FBI agent (Bacon) called out of retirement to track down a devious and diabolical serial killer (Purefoy), the mastermind behind a nationwide string of murders. The show
