First Full Trailer for Man of Steel Arrives At Last — And It is Glorious

Henry Cavill in Man of Steel (2013) Movie Image

Today must be Awesome Movie Trailers Day! Following up on that totally rad “The Lone Ranger” trailer comes this new, full-length trailer for Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel”. As with Tonto in “The Lone Ranger”, I am totally digging the mood Snyder is striking in “Man of Steel”. It’s like a combination of the “mature” themes of Bryan Singer’s “Superman Returns” and the comic book action of, well, the comic books. (I know, I know, most people hated Singer’s “Superman Returns”, but I’m not one of them, so whatever, dudes.) Check out the first full trailer for “Man of Steel”, and you will believe a movie about a guy who flies can be cool again.

Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.

Starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, Russell Crowe, and fighting for truth, justice, and the American way June 14, 2013.

    WHOA!

  • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

    FINALLY! That was awesome!!!!
As for Returns I didn’t hate it but I was very very disappointed. Lack of action and basically the same plot as Superman 1. I did like the subtle nods and how well Routh embodied Reeve’s Superman. But we need something new and I really look forward to this!!

    • ErickKwon

More importantly, this looks like something that will really give us a Superman movie for the digital/anything you can imagine age. One gripe I had with “Returns” was that aside from some of the moments in airplane crash scene, the movie didn’t wow me with the visuals.

      • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

EVEN MORE importantly it looks like there’s an actual credible threat and opposition for Superman. There’s been a definite lack of anything for him really to do other than pine for Lois’ affections.

      • Online72

That movie (Returns) should have ended with the conclusion of the airplane scene. I know I checked out after that. And, I’ve never felt like reliving that movie once. Once at the theatre was enough for me.

        • Juggernaut

It’s no better after repeated viewings. Although, Routh’s performance was really solid.

  • Jritty

    that was crap.

  • Lexavi80

Well, slap my ass and call me Sally!! That was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

  • X_p

glorious? thats a big word for this preview when its merely adequate. it fails to have an epic feel and it looks like battle los angeles and we all know how bad that movie was …

    Im certainly not wow-ed.

    • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Nix

Dude, you are not “wow-ed” by ANYTHING.

      • X_p

i am. mostly its the foreign stuff tho. like all my life i wanted a bunch of comic movies and now that im getting them idk, not all of them are what id hoped. im still down for this one but superman is a bright hero and here is all brooding way hardcore and that makes me nervouz. i will say i love the flying scenes lots.

        • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Nix

I’m the opposite — I’ve been waiting for this stuff for so long, I’m just happy I’m still around to enjoy them, haha.

          • X_p

thats cool! and so am i really, its prob just trauma from brett rattner.

        • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

He’s brooding because he’s realizing how alone he truly is. Something I think should definitely get played up, he may look like us but he’s not one of us and he feels it everyday. That said it won’t be all woe is me, he’s going to be that symbol of hope, but he’s got to get there first and earn our trust. We’ve all gotten used to the big blue boyscout but in reality we wouldn’t be so quick to embrace someone so powerful, we’d be scared and I think that’s what we’re going to see.

          • X_p

i trust nolan has more in store for us and really thats the only reason why im betting this is gonna be worth watching, but two things stick out for me: one is its a 2 min trailer and no time is given to Zod and the threat he brings and two the convo supes dad is having with young Clark about maybe letting the kids die its a lil on the over done side. of course this is just judging by the preview but im not sure if its costner phoning it in or if its the writing. but something is off in there somewhere.

          • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Yeah Nolan wouldn’t let this end up being bad, and Snyder, say what you will about him will give this a visual flair that makes it stand out. As for Costner I don’t think he’s phoning it in so much as he is just trying to have a normal conversation about very extraordinary events. Also, it’s a trailer so even the convo is edited a bit.

          • Lexavi80

I’m starting to think Zod is not the villain here. Most likely is Brainiac or something.

I mean… I can see ships on earth. Why would God attack hearth with spaceships?

also, u remember back when a picture from the set came up, and it was Superman facing Faora and a dude with a motion capture suit? Why would God need a MCS?

          • omegamandroid

i dont think pa kent / kevin costner is overeaching with lettting some poor kids die.. i think jonathan kent is a realist who knows how human beings would treat his son..and exploit him ruthlessly esp the GOV.. any gov would.. so he knows that superman has a journey or destiny to embrace…and if he turned the water into wine to early so to speak..[jesus reference] that young clarke may never embrace his true calling if its altered by the exposing his abilities much too early in his life.. so sacrifices has to be made as the kingpin in spiderman would say.. and i agree with jonathan kent.. he sees a bigger role or picture for his boy ..afterall superman just happened to crash landed in kansas..and not russia or iran..or china..then who knows what would be his take on the world.. yes superman is an uninvited guest of OUR WORLD.. not a sole country.. agreed

          • omegamandroid

i agree we human beings are very very hypocritical.. we would be envious and hateful and enigmatic and finally applaud superman in the end ..for doing glorious things to help the world of mankind.. but many ppl would either spit on his image or praise and haile him as a pseudo demi god .. religion would have been sups biggest protagonist.. anyway .. i think snyder is taking superman mythos into a dif direction which was a long time coming.. i ve had enough of this boyscoutt superman.. although superman always does the right thing in the end..and would sacrifice one for the lives of many if needed be..even those whom he loves.. that is a major dif btwn sups and other superheroes..who are eager to rescue their damsel in distress over the lives of trapped passengers..sups sees the whole picture which i admire hugely

    • PeterGR

We all know? That’s a big statement…and pure hate of a good alien invasion movie!!!

    • Urizen

I don’t know where you’re getting the “Battle: Los Angeles” comparison from except that there are a few explosions in the last 30 seconds or so. Most of the trailer focuses on his relationship with his parents, his emotional response to his enormous power, and so forth.

      • X_p

ya i think it might be all the ships and explosions at the end. i would have rather have seen more of ZOD and an explanation of who he is and then go into the invasion angle.

        • Lexavi80

For what I can see, some of the explosions also take place on Krypton.

We don’t get much from Zod because he might not be the villain.

          • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

I was thinking that too when I saw this. Yeah some of the destruction was Metropolis (the part with Perry and Lois running away from what looked like a collapsing building) but for the most part the explosions looked like that was Krypton.

  • ErickKwon

    Hell yeah

  • Predator_dos

    HOLY *UCK

  • Clark

    so bad…

  • Aegon the Conqueror

Oe I loved this! Feels very emotionally grounded in reality. I like that. The song at the beginning from Lisa Gerard sounds alot like one of the ones she sang in Gladiator.
btw Nix, what mature themes in Returns?

    • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Nix

Superman as God, and what it means to have a God walk amongst us. Always alone, always detached, and always responsible for everyone and everything. It was really the first movie that I thought truly explored the question of what it means to BE Superman — the burden of Superman. That’s why I always despised the film’s Lex Luthor plot, because it felt like such a different movie from the Superman Singer was trying to portray.

      • X_p

i liked “returns” a lot cept for the sup child. i was a lil bit disappointed we have to watch this from the beginning yet again…

        • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Nix

They sort of threw that in there. I really didn’t see the point of the kid, either.

          • Juggernaut

They brought in the kid to have him not be alone anymore.

          • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Nix

That’s true. I didn’t like his inclusion, though. He felt like a zombie kid for most of the movie.

          • ErickKwon

Him and Luthor’s henchmen. It’s weird that so many of them are completely mute throughout, even front-credited Kal Penn

      • ErickKwon

Trailer got me so stoked that I’m in the middle of a “S: Returns” rewatch, and yeah, it does do some interesting things re: being Superman (apparently the only superbeing on the planet) and the last of your kind. Also never noticed before that Brandon Routh basically plays three characters: Clark Kent; Superman for the public AKA the Christopher Reeve imitation; and fucked up, damaged Kal-El.

        • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Never even thought bout it that way until just now. Good stuff. Routh was the only thing I liked about the film.

      • Aegon the Conqueror

I think you and I watched different movies called Superman Returns.

        • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Nix

When was the last time you saw the film? If it’s been a while, you should re-watch it, but this time minus the fanboy expectations (and I am not using the word “fanboy” in a negative way whatsoever).

  • NCounter

Really nice trailer. Nice score. Nice scenes. Sadly not much of Shannon…hope we will see him more next year)) The Only thing – Is PA Kent that obssessed with protecting his family. I mean…his “Maybe”. That’s something new. Oh and Mr Nolans influence is HEAVY. Once again Great Trailer.

    • http://www.facebook.com/curtis.a.hedrick Curtis Andrew Hedrick

I took it to be more of a “Maybe” in terms of somethings happen for a reason and he can’t stop everything. Johnathan keeping Clark from getting a God Complex. At least thats what I’m taking from it until I hear the whole conversation. Looking forward to actually getting the hear the score when they have something to let us hear.
