Theatrical Trailer for Thor Brings Asgard Down to Earth

Check out the first full theatrical trailer (not to be mistaken with the teaser trailer, the Comic Con trailer, or the Super Bowl trailer) for Marvel Studios’ “Thor”. This one focuses a lot more on us lowly mortals, but you still great some great glimpses of the shiny glory that is Asgard.

Thor spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is the mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth by his father Odin and is forced to live among humans. A beautiful, young scientist, Jane Foster (Portman), has a profound effect on Thor, as she ultimately becomes his first love. It’s while here on Earth that Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

Starring Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Ray Stevenson, Rene Russo, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Clark Gregg, Colm Feore, Tadanobu Asano, Adriana Barraza, Joshua Dallas, Matt Battaglia and directed by Kenneth Branagh.

wow. So pumped I can barely contain myself.

Whoa! This is gonna be EPIC!!! I think that this trailer was even more bad ass than the Comic-Con one. Can’t wait to see this! And how about the coffee cup scene?!?! Classic! The only part that I had a hard time with was the god of thunder being taken down with a taser??? Other than that excellent!

    • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool

Depowered God of thunder and I think that was for irony. LOL. And yes Coffe Mug scene was perfect as was the taser scene.

      • Juggernaut

I thought that maybe it was because he was de-powered too at first, but then he has the Asgardian strength and agility to escape from Agent Coulson’s detainment facility. Obviously I am just speculating and those scenes may be out of context and he is re-powered during his escape but still… a taser?!?!?! Either way I’ll let that scene slide as the rest looked amazing!!!

        • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool

THAT and it wasn’t really asgardian strength and agility as it was the battle training in general I’d say. And even depowered he may still be stronger than the average joe, but getting taased when you first wake up would shock anyone. Pun intended. LOL But yeah the film looks absolutely epic!! Go Marvel!!

          • Juggernaut

Okay, I retract my complaint. Geez! But seriously that makes sense. I suppose it is along the same lines of Cap’s reaction to being shot at by a person whom he considered an ally after just being transformed by the Super Soldier Serum. Having been hurled to a strange planet and surrounded by odd new people would take him off guard and leave him vunerable to a taase. Good point. You ever think about becoming a lawyer?

And give up the dream of working for one of the big two or making my own comic. PLEASE!!! LOL. Plus I like my soul. LOL.

  • Shazam!

Now that’s a trailer! It isn’t made for fan-boys, it isn’t made up only of eye candy – it tries to sell you on the movie… and based on those 2 minutes alone… I am sold!

I had a feeling that getting someone who understands classics like Kenneth Branagh to take on this classic character would turn out to be a good move… me thinks I was correct! I’m loving what they’ve taken from the original comics and mixed it with the Ultimates line… looks like a heck of a ride!

Branagh was the only choice in my opinion for this franchise.

Good to see more of the story put into the trailer now. Not good to see that there will be a reference to Facebook in the movie, that was disappointing.

  • David Scholes

It’s looking really good for the Thor movie.

IMHO, of the current crop of superhero movies, only the Avengers movie due to come out in 2012 will be bigger at the box office.

That’s what i’m talking about, Chris does a great job as Thor.

It looks like that rumoured full plot to the film was right.

Great trailer, it’s looking like Thor’s persona has been captured well. I loved the taser scene , that was funny. He wouldn’t know what a taser was or what it could do so he wouldn’t be prepared for it. Love the cup scene, it’s like he still thinks he’s in the grand halls of Valhalla. Which reminds me, I wonder if Valkyrie is in this? I haven’t read the script. I’m curious about The Enchantress and Scorge also. I’m thinking that the actor with the last name “Gatt” will be in as Scorge The Executioner.

    • Juggernaut

I was thinking that Joseph Gatt was going to be playing either a frost giant, Scourge or maybe even Absorbing man (longshot!) or one of the Wrecking Crew (who I hope show up in either this one or in the sequels).

      • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool

Definitely would be cool for Scourge in sequel, Wrecking Crew in third.

I could see he wrecking crew gaining their powers in this film with a lot of enchanted action taking place on Midgard. While he is in the town fighting off The Destroyer armor, Loki zapps three bystanders and makes them attack the crowd to distract Thor. Or something like that. In the scuffle they escape and come back in part two. That would be cool.

I forgot!!!!! Gatt said that he has “an arsenal of weapons and gives Thor much grief”. That sounds exactly like Scourge The Executioner. I’ve heard that the script is PHENOMENAL and faithful!

  • Slipstream

YES! For a while I thought they didn’t have the rainbow bridge… well there is much else i can complain about
