First Full Trailer for Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher Cracks Heads and Takes No Names

Apparently Lee Child, the British writer behind all-American badass Jack Reacher, plans on producing a new Jack Reacher novel at least once a year. Which is good news for fans of the character. The last book, “A Wanted Man”, was actually pretty good, though like most of Reacher’s stories, it’s very tightly contained. I.e. no saving the world stuff here, just a guy who gets into trouble and has to battle his way out, fists and bullets flying along the way. And say what you will about the casting of Cruise as Reacher, but he seems to get the character. Jack Reacher is a hero, but he most definitely plays by his own rules. Take a gander at the first full trailer for “Jack Reacher”, which drives that point home.

Six shots. Five dead. One heartland city thrown into a state of terror. But within hours the cops have it solved: a slam-dunk case. Except for one thing. The accused man says: You got the wrong guy. Then he says: Get Reacher for me. And sure enough, ex–military investigator Jack Reacher is coming. He knows this shooter—a trained military sniper who never should have missed a shot. Reacher is certain something is not right—and soon the slam-dunk case explodes. Now Reacher is teamed with a beautiful young defense lawyer, moving closer to the unseen enemy who is pulling the strings. Reacher knows that no two opponents are created equal. This one has come to the heartland from his own kind of hell. And Reacher knows that the only way to take him down is to match his ruthlessness and cunning—and then beat him shot for shot.

Also starring Rosamund Pike, Robert Duvall, Jai Courtney, Richard Jenkins, Werner Herzog, James Martin Kelly, David Oyelowo, Michael Raymond-James, Alexia Fast, and directed by Christopher McQuarrie.

Busting heads in the name of justice December 21, 2012.

Hehe! I kind of enjoy the trailer. Specially the last part.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks this looks surprisingly good. Christopher McQuarrie’s “Way of the Gun” is one of the most underrated movies of the 90’s. It looks like he’s having fun making a slick, mainstream action/thriller. And I gotta admit it’s cool to see Tom Cruise and Robert Duvall back together after “Days of Thunder”!

Can’t stand Cruise. He’s totally the wrong actor for Jack Reacher. But it does look decent.

    • Juggernaut

Agreed on both counts. The part called for a bigger, gruffer person to play it but from the trailer it looks very entertaining.

I guess you could pretend this is a totally different movie than the book and it’s main character just happens to be named Jack Reacher.

WOW! Tom Cruise…being Tom Cruise…but the movie looks awesome!

I have no idea who was responsible for choosing Tom Cruise for this role, but it was a BIG mistake. Did the casting director even read ONE of the Reacher books? I REFUSE to watch this movie due to the travesty of choosing this tool to play this perfect Character. As a retired Army Soldier, I am insulted with this choice.
