Since the MTV Movie awards aren’t going on, the next best place for MTV to help boost their ratings for this Sunday’s Video Music Awards is well, at their own MTV VMAs. The former music playing channel turned reality TV channel has announced that during the VMAs, they’ll be debuting the first footage for “The Hunger Games”, which is set to hit theaters on March 23, 2012.
Directed by Gary Ross, “The Hunger Games” chronicles a dystopic Capitol which requires its twelve subjugated districts to pay tribute in the form of a teenage boy and girl, forced to participate in the annual “Hunger Games,” a fight-to-the-death live televised event. Katniss Everdeen’s little sister is chosen in the lottery to participate and Katniss volunteers to take her place. Although persevering through hardship is commonplace for Katniss, she must start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love in order to win the games and return home.
Luckily, if you don’t want to watch the VMAs Sunday, the clip will also be online at MTV.com (where else?) after
Katniss Jennifer Lawrence presents the clip during the show, which will air live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 28 at 9PM (Live ET/Tape delayed PT.)
“The Hunger Games” will star Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Donald Sutherland and Lenny Kravitz.
