“Batman” trilogy writer David S. Goyer’s new TV show on the Starz cable network “Da Vinci’s Demons” is very intriguing. I’m not art history professor or nuthin’, but the idea of an “untold” story about the famous artist’s early life in Renaissance Florence should make for some really good adventures. The fact that it’s all being told in “untold” (ahem) fashion pretty much means Goyer and his people can do whatever the hell they want with the character, rather it fits in with the man’s true established history or not. That should make for some rollicking good fun, I’m imagine.
Starz has now released three first look images from the show, starring Tom Riley as Da Vinci, described as “brilliant and passionate, the twenty-five year old Leonardo Da Vinci is an artist, inventor, swordsman, lover, dreamer and idealist. As a free thinker, with intellect and talents that are almost superhuman, he struggles to live within the confines of his own reality and time. He begins to not only see the future, but invent it.”
The show co-stars Laura Haddock (“Captain America: The First Avenger”) and Lara Pulver (“True Blood,” “Sherlock,” “Robin Hood”). The first season will be comprised of 8 episodes, and is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2013. In case you missed it, the first teaser trailer for the show is embedded above, not that it shows anything, mind you.
Also, Goyer has a production blog up in case you want to check it out.
