I heared somewhere that they will be using “ADVANCED” CGI to make Chatwin’s hair look like Goku’s. But they can’t make it look too much like the anime Goku’s it would look stupid and cheezy. And I heared that the Namekians(in later films) and Picollo will be able to shape-shift so he can make himself look human in public, but he will mostly be in his green reptillian form that we all know and love. As for the shoulder pads-cape and the turbin I don’t know what Wong’s plan will be/ Keeping my fingers crossed though. Hoping that this will be the summer hit.

ummmm…..I kinda have an idea what it would look like in real life. when they took this pic they were not filming it. In real life they are suppose to be thin. in real life they dont look huge. they are adding special effects anyway………I also saw in the backround, there is the same car as you can see in transformers………I think his face looks sharp and great for a super saiyan……..As you can see the clothing is orange which is seen on the charecters the one with the kenji of master roshi….If you have watched naruto, when they are in the tornaments you can see ino as wearing orange…i do see many simalarities…..in the anime dbz they have sighns showing the inoshikacho as you can see from episode 82 which is short for ino…. trust me i know what it looks like.

I am not flaming or endorsing the movie. I happen to love Dragonball/Z/GT and personally cant wait to see it. But I do hope they make Goku at least bulked up like he is for real and not skinny. And by for real I mean in the anime. lol. But anyways I cant wait for it to come out.

I think they can pull it off. They have to make it as realistic as possible. If he had they same hair in the anime’ it would look gay. Serious, it will be a hit they cant make it exactly like the anime, it will be stupid.

What everyone needs to realize is that this is young Goku not SS goku. Even when he fights Raditz in the anime hes not ripped out. Im sure as the series of movies go on, Chatwin will be required to do the wrok necessary to pull of the part if not scrap him. this is a modernized look at DBZ but i will say i hope they dont CGI Chatwin’s Hair cuzz that would look really terrible. Bottom line though i like chatwin as goku but in these set pics that does not shout out goku to me, and as the face of this movie franchise thats really a let down.

I agree, this guy is too skinny to play the great goku, i couldn’t imagine him like Goku, we’ll see, but if Wong wants to make this movie, he has to think that the serie is so amazing that there are a lot of things out of reality that make this serie so awesome, so please don’t dissapoint us!

You think this movie looks bad? Well quit whining and go pick up the first dragonball live action movie entitled Dragonball:The Magic Begins. After watching 10 minutes of it and clawing your eyes out maybe you wil appreciate this one a bit more.

Also, to all who feel so strongly on the topic that the actor who is playing Goku should’ve been of asian decent, ask yourself just one smart question: If Goku is an alien, who’s to say he would look asian? Does that mean all aliens should look asian? Just a thought….

I don’t get why would anyone be defending Hollywood around here. Some people seem to be talking as if making Dragonball into a live action is a crucial and heavenly cause and that no one should be speaking out against it. Makes me wonder if the production’s sending agents everywhere now that criticizm and boycotts against the movie has boiled up

Ok, i been warching Dragon Ball for as long as I can remember and was wiked exited about the film, even tho it IS dragon ball…fist I was say im pissed off about some of the charecters no names tho(chatwin), also Dragon Ball starts off with Goku being 13, and I dont recall him being in high School, with a tight ass orange shirt and some tight ass black jeans,, second last i checked, goku had black cool up long hair ,black eyes, not brwon hair and blue eyes…and yes bumblebee is in the film, this movie is gonna be awsome as another title (maybe), but to call it dragon ball is adiscrase to all fans…thank u

to Rocker Boy: First of all, stop fussing, second, Its an adaptation not a recreating of every detail from the original series, it will be boring as hell, Goku in highschool is an excellent idea to bring something new to his character and show his personality, (dumb, but one hell of a fighter), and for the most part, it will only last like 5 minutes, so quit whining, it’s not the overall film, if you don’t like don’t watch it, it’s that simple

It seems that the reason people are pissed over this is that the production is simply using the name of ‘Dragonball’ to swindle from the ignorant among the public. There won’t be so much criticizm if they only stole the plot and not the names.
Worse, Hollywood’s advertizing their totally warped adaptation by calling it ‘the official movie’. No wonder the Japanese are so enraged to the point they are preparing to set up a boycott

The movie takes part when Goku was a young (teenage-)man… you can compare it to the story-line when goke beat piccolo (junior) at the tournament… and a fact is, goku was at this time point much more skinnier than in the following sagas (saiyan, freezer saga etc.)… for me Justin matches (young) goku perfectly… i just hope the cgi his hair a lil bit cause in these picturese it looks total normally… and saiyans are known for their special hair, so it is a must to look them at least similar like in the anime…

it would be nice if they take someone else for the following sagas they will do… like in the starwars saga darth vader always was played by a different actor… they should do the same with dragon ball… so for the next sage, what probably will be the sayian sage, i really hope they choose a bigger that isnt that skinny as justin… well, we’ll see, we’ll see…

My main concern with this guy is that he’s looking down, depressed and sad in these shots - Goku was happy and upbeat. It ruins any chance of a connection between the two characters.

This is not actually Dragonball Z.
It is based off of Dragonball, whenever Goku was a teenager, which explains why he is not “bulky” and why he has a back-pack.

Big deal, in the anime, it was not really meant as spiky, only unruly and kind of long. That is it. The director thought it looked enough like Goku’s, which I actually disagree on, so decided not to make him wear a wig. But, some of the women will have wigs, I believe.
Oh, and another thing I know you will probably not like or may love, the animals will be cut out.
You know the talking ones? And I doubt that dinosaurs will be in there as well…

Besides, the film is practically done.
It was going to be released soon, but they did not want it to compete with the four other movies that Fox was releasing the month it was coming out. August, I believe.

As much as I hear everyone complaining that the actors are gonna suck, I bet every single one of you will be in the front row with your popcorn and coke, pissing your pants of too much excitement when this movie comes out…cheering on goku like a little kid. I do have high expectations for this movie but I’ll be waiting for DBZ movie in 3 or 4 years, when Vegeta shows up…until then…keep on complaining and see you in april 2009.

BTW: what about krillin? not in the movie?

good point krillin not being in the movie nk its because onn the cartoon on the king piccolo saga krillin gets killed by one of king piccolos henchmen so krillin was out for the whole saga same with master roshi though he was supposed to be out too well for half of the saga wen he gets killed then they come bak wen goku gathers the dragonballs to wish them bak after the fight

The animal type people are also gone. Like Oolong, and Puar is gone as well.
Oh, and OmegaRed, I do not think they will actually be in the front row. You can’t quite see the film all too well there, they will want to get to the top for the best picture they might get.

Reading this thread has prompted me to say a couple things.

1: I wish more people paid attention in English class.

2: This is an adaptation of Dragon Ball. That means it is not only about Goku’s EARLY YEARS, when he was NOT A HULKING VIN-DIESEL-ISH BEEFCAKE, but also that it’s an ADAPTATION of a cartoon and therefore not going to be easy to get dead on. Dragonball was such an odd duck of a manga/anime that there’s only so much of the original they can keep intact and still expect the viewing audience to take it seriously. Hence, they skipped ahead and made Piccolo the villain. I don’t see anyone here complaining about the absence of Emperor Pilaf…

3: At the end of the day, Hollyweird is out to make a buck. The beauty of anime-to-live-action is that they can TRY to pull in not only the fans of the original, but the “jocks” and “bros” who see the trailer and say to themselves, “Dude this looks like an AWSM action flick let’s watch shiznit blow up and superspeed kung fu times lolz”. The more demographics you appeal to, the more likely you are to surpass the bottom line and actually earn profit.

4: The odds of Toriyama-sensei bothering to show up on this drab little chat board is a million to one.
