First Images from Frank Miller’s The Spirit

I know that the official title of “The Spirit” is “Will Eisner’s The Spirit”, but let’s face it, by the time it hits theaters, it’ll probably just be called “The Spirit”, as I highly doubt the vast majority of the moviegoing public knows who Eisner was. The studios will help out by relentlessly tagging the film as “from the guy that gave you Sin City and 300″ and go from there. Mark my words, it shall happen as I have predicted. But moving on. The lucky blokes over at SuperheroHype were recently invited onto the set of “The Spirit”, and they’ve come away with a couple of nifty shots, both spanking new images (and the first of their kind, if I’m not mistaken) from the movie.

Frank Miller’s “The Spirit” stars Gabriel Macht, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Eva Mendes, Sarah Paulson, Paz Vega, Jamie King, Dan Lauria, Stana Katic, Johnny Simmons and Louis Lombardi, and is scheduled to bust up the box office on January 16, 2009.

The film, not surprisingly considering Miller’s pedigree, is green screen heavy:

I’m really excited about this movie, but I fear that it’ll suffer the same fate as the Dick Tracy, The Shadow, and The Phantom movies…all great 30s and 40s characters that the majority of the movie-going public knows nothing about.

And I hope Mr. Eisner’s name is kept…he deserves it and Sin City was released as “Frank Miller’s Sin City,” too.
