Don’t go back in the cave! What are you thinking? They’re waiting for you in the cave! Don’t go back down there! Oh well, she went back down there, and those crawlers are once again attacking and trying to eat her pretty little brainless head. That seems to be the “barely trying” premise for “The Descent 2″, the sequel to Neill Marshall’s break-through splatterific International horror hit from 2005 about a group of girl power grrls who go spelunking in the Appalachian, only to get eaten by subterranean crawlers that mistaken them for food. In the sequel, Shauna Macdonald returns to lead another expedition into those crawler-filled caves to find her missing comrades. Of course we know why they’re missing, don’t we? Hmmmmm, tasty!
The official plotline:
Distraught, confused and half-wild with fear, Sarah Carter emerges alone from the Appalachian cave system where she encountered unspeakable terrors. Unable to plausibly explain to the authorities what happened – or why she’s covered in blood – Sarah is forced back to the subterranean depths to help locate her five missing friends. As the rescue party drives deeper into uncharted caverns, nightmarish visions of the recent past begin to haunt Sarah and she starts to realize the full horror and futility of the mission.

I bet all that blood is like ketchup to the crawlers…
