In the Asian horror movie “Painted Skin”, Donnie Yen has to fight off a vampire-like woman who eats the skins and hearts of her lovers. Ouch. The last time we heard anything about the film, director Wilson Yip had been replaced on the $15 million dollar picture by Gordon Chan, but other than that, not a whole lot. Now, via a Chinese site, we have two images from the movie — actually, what looks like posters with teaser images of Donnie Yen and, we presume, the vampire chick herself.
The story, about the relationship between humans and a girl from the world of spirits, was adapted from the classic Chinese legends titled STRANGE TALES OF LIAOZHAI, which previously inspired a 1993 Hong Kong film also titled PAINTED SKIN (pictured), directed by veteran King Hu and starring HK faves Adam Cheng, Sammo Hung, Lam Ching-Ying, Joey Wong and Wu Ma. Heavy CGI postproduction will follow, with completion targeted for the end of next year.

I was really.really hoping this was a contemporary film and not a period piece. My heart has sunk because I’m not sure if it’s gonna include the kind of jaw dropping fight scenes Donnie has been delivering recently. Donnie Yen with long hair equals, expectations in despair.
