First Look at Green Lantern: Emerald Knights Animated Movie

Here’s your first official image from D.C.’s latest direct-to-DVD animated movie, “Green Lantern: Emerald Knights”, which is scheduled to hit DVD 10 days before the Ryan Reynolds-starring live-action movie. “Firefly’s” Nathan Fillion was recently announced as the voice of Hal Jordan, with a cast that includes Kelly Hu, Jason Isaacs, and Arnold Vosloo.

Press release ahoy:

Fillion provides the voice of the animated film’s central character Hal Jordan, the human Green Lantern assigned to Sector 2814 (which includes Earth). Fillion has starred in several primetime television series including Desperate Housewives, Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He has also developed a popular cult following as a pair of Joss Whedon’s heroic captains: Capt. Mal Reynolds in the space-western series Firefly and follow-up film, Serenity; and Captain Hammer in Whedon’s internet sensation Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Fillion returns to the DC Universe after his successful turn as Steve Trevor in the animated film Wonder Woman, and has performed voice work on Justice League, Robot Chicken, The Venture Bros., and several Halo video games.

Moss gives voice to Arisia, a young recruit forced into her first mission on just her third day as a Green Lantern. Prior to starring as the ever-evolving Peggy Olson in AMC’s ground-breaking series Mad Men, Moss was featured on The West Wing, Invasion and Picket Fences. Moss has been active in voiceovers for animation with previous roles in Steven Spielberg Presents Animaniacs, Freakazoid! and It’s Spring Training, Charlie Brown!.

The voice cast for the animated Green Lantern: Emerald Knights also features actor/spoken word artist Henry Rollins (Sons of Anarchy, The Henry Rollins Show) as Kilowog, Jason Isaacs (the Harry Potter films) as Sinestro, legendary professional wrestler “Rowdy” Roddy Piper (They Live) as Bolphunga, Arnold Vosloo (The Mummy) as Abin Sur, Kelly Hu (The Vampire Diaries) as Laira and Wade Williams (Prison Break) as Deegan. Radio Hall of Fame commentator/talk show host Michael Jackson voices the esteemed Guardian, Ganthet.

Bruce Timm is executive producer of Green Lantern: Emerald Knights. Directors are Lauren Montgomery, Jay Oliva and Christopher Berkeley.

“Green Lantern: Emerald Knights” lands June 7, 2011 from Warner Home Video as a Blu-Ray™ Combo Pack and 2-Disc Special Edition DVD, as well as single disc DVD. The film will also be available On Demand and for Download.

Looks very much like “First Flight,” not a bad thing at all. And HA I was right about Rollins playing Kilowog and Isaacs as Sinestro. Arnold Vosloo as Abin Sur works for me too. Liking this more and more.

Now thinking about it Vosloo would have made a good live action Abin Sur too. I also liked Elias Koteas for the role. I’m sure that Temuera Morrison will do just fine. Every time I start to talk about the GL movie I start to become depressed. It was so promising when it first got under way. It even has a solid cast, aside from Reynolds. I really hope that it proves me wrong.

I think you’re letting your general disdain for reynolds cloud your view of the movie. LOL. Kidding. I’m not as worried about it as everyone else and I’m a HUGE GL fan. The thing is, from reading interviews with the writers, Geoff Johns and others the tone of the movie ISN’T what we saw in the trailer. It’s alot more serious and darker than the light hearted stuff we saw. That’s what they showed us to gain interest. But it backfired I guess. I dunno. Me and my friends all liked it and thought it looked pretty good.

But I think Jango, er Captain Rex, er, I mean Temuera will do great. He even popped up in “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena” =-)

LOL!!! Nice one! Turning my words against me. I do generally dislike Reynolds, got me there! However I wanted to see him knock this role out of the park, if only for the movie’s sake. I honestly want to see DC pump out good movies. It’s all fun and games to sit around and bash DC for their epic fails as far as the live action history goes but at the end of the day the only ones that it hurts is us, the fans! Peter Saarsgard, Tim Robbins, Jay O. Sanders, aAngela Bassett and Mark Strong are all really solid actors. For all intents and purposes Reynolds is physically spot on for Hal and Lively is a fresh faced, pretty, young “it” girl now so the cast is ideal. I hope that you’re right about the darker tone. If I get a giant headed version of Jim Carrey’s Batman Forever Riddler out of Sarsgaard I’m gonna be pissed!!!

Lmao. Thought you’d like that. Its funny that you feel that way about Reynolds, alot feel the same about Evans (but haven’t given him a chance and he’s just now breaking out of type casting) but I understand it. I myself can only tolerate him in certain roles. And I agree whole heartedly about the DC failures. I joke but it kills me they can’t seem to get their own characters right. I’m a bit opptimistic about it because of the cast, director and such.

I like Hal Jordan but can we have some animated movies on the other earth lanterns, I mean damn we’ve had “First Flight” now this, then the movie and then the animated series. I’m starting to get sick of this guy lol.

    • Juggernaut

Well hopefully since this is a series of one offs akin to Gotham Knights Hal will encounter other GL’s like Guy Gardner, John Stewart, Kyle Rayner, Jade, maybe even Alan Scott!

      • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool

Doubtful. Hal’s vignettte has to do with Arisa, and thats it. He only has the one as he has a whole series coiming as well as a movie. It’d be great to see some of the other Earth GL’s but remember that all happened a couple years after Hal gets his ring (except for Alan) and that the movie or animated universe is NOT the same as the comics.

  • Brittdasheet

Haha – I forgot that Filion and Reynolds were both on “Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place”.. Episodic teevee at its finest..

They’re clearly doing the Mogo Doesn’t socialize story with Bolphunga. Still, that’s a great story.
