With “The Twilight Saga” wrapping up this year, all the movies based on young adult novels (and there are a LOT of them coming your way) are all lining up to replace it as the go-to franchise for your hard-earned dollars. Well, we are talking about teen girls here, so maybe “hard-earned” isn’t entirely correct. Let’s just say, highly disposable dollars, then.
Anyways, here’s your first look at Lily Collins, she of the amazing furry eyebrows, in “The Mortal Instruments”, an adaptation of the Cassandra Clare series of novels about a young teenage girl who must battle the forces of evil while falling in love and all that good stuff.
In the film, Collins plays Clary Fray, a “seemingly ordinary girl” (aren’t they always?) in New York City who finds out about her past and fantastical bloodline when her mom is attacked and taken from their home by demons. Hey, every 9th grader hasn’t had that dilemma. Am I right, girls?
As you’ve probably already surmised, this is the first of an expected franchise. It co-stars Kevin Zegers, Jamie Campbell Bower, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Robert Sheehan, Kevin Durand, Jared Harris, Jemima West, Godfrey Gao, Aidan Turner, CCH Pounder, and hails from “Karate Kid” remake director Harald Zwart.
The first installment, “City of Bones”, unearths on August 23, 2013.
