Whoa. Apparently I haven’t been paying attention to my Neil Marshall news, because Marshall is knee-deep in his latest movie, “Centurion”, a period action flick with Roman legions, a group of badass warriors called the Picts, and the whole bloodbath will be set in 117 A.D. (Well you gotta figure that last part given the movie has Roman legionnaires in it.) Now Empire’s got your first look at star Olga Kurylenko in costume (and make-up).
The plot goes something like this:
Britain, A.D. 117. Quintus Dias, the sole survivor of a Pictish raid on a Roman frontier fort, marches north with General Virilus’ legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe the Picts from the face of the Earth and destroy their leader, Gorlacon.
From Empire, here’s how Marshall describes Kurylenko’s character, Etain:
“Etain is kind of revenge incarnate,” says the writer/director, speaking to Empire exclusively on set. “Her family were butchered by the Romans, she had her tongue cut out by the Romans, she’s had a hell of a time and she’s out for Roman blood.”
“She’s quite furious,” agrees Kurylenko. “Because one sense is not there – she can’t speak – all the others are more developed. She sees very well and hears very well: she is an animal!”
Kurylenko co-stars with Michael Fassbender, the film’s lead, who is no stranger to period bloodbaths having played a Spartan in Zack Snyder’s “300”. The rest of the cast includes fellow “300” alum Dominic West, as well as Noel Clarke, David Morrisey, JJ Feild and Riz Ahmed.
