I’ll be honest, I’ve lived in Texas most of my life, and I’ve never heard of this. Then again, Texas is a big ass state, and the Galveston area is not exactly the “center of attention” here unless a hurricane is on its way. Try to find a lot of information on this so-called “Texas killing fields”, and you’ll just keep coming up with stories on the movie being made about it. But I did find this, which sheds a lot of light on the actual cases of rampant serial killers (there are apparently a lot of them) using this same stretch of Galveston land as their own personal dump site for their victims. It’s pretty disturbing, and amazing that no one has been able to do anything about it.
In the film version, to be directed by Michael Mann’s daughter Ami, Sam Worthington and Jeffrey Dean Morgan team-up as cops looking for the killers. Since many of the crimes along the area remain unsolved, one suspects the film will make great use of its “loosely based on” tag.
Also co-starring Chloe Moretz, Jason Clarke, Stephen Graham, Annabeth Gish, Jessica Chastain, Sheryl Lee, and Sean Michael Cunningham. Look for it to hit theaters July 16, 2011.
