Ant-Man (2015) Movie Banner Title

Here’s your first official look at star Paul Rudd in Marvel’s “Ant-Man.”

Alas, he’s not wearing the Ant-Man costume. I guess it’s going to be a while, since the movie did just announce the official start of production yesterday.

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

The film stars Rudd as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, and Michael Douglas (“Behind The Candelabra,” “Wall Street”) as his mentor Dr. Hank Pym and Evangeline Lilly (“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” “Lost”) as Hope Van Dyne, daughter of Hank Pym.

Peyton Reed directs the film, which is currently scheduled for July 17, 2015.

    That was fast!

I hope this movie is half as good as it could have been with Edgar Wright at the helm, or I’ll be pissed.

Well from what I’ve read all the changes were because Wright wanted a more stand alone flick, and Marvel wanted it to connect more to the burgeoning MCU. So where there was only a mention of character before, now we’re getting this all connected with John Slattery reprising his role as an elder Howard Stark, and such. Even Marvel’s worst films aren’t necessarily bad. But then again, that’s a matter of opinion.

I like that they’re really playing up Lang’s thief/conman side.

The loss of Edgar Wright really took the wind out of this movie’s sails but hopefully it ends up being a pleasant surprise. For me, Wright’s departure doesn’t make or break my enthusiasm. Marvel seems to have a plan and it’s been working out pretty well so far. Besides, we get the possibility to see a tie to the origins of SHIELD ! Hoping we get cameos from Peggy, Dum Dum and Zola in there with Howard Stark.
