First Official Look at Ryan Reynolds as the Green Lantern – UPDATED

Here’s your first official look at Ryan Reynolds in costume as the Green Lantern in an upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly. It doesn’t quite look like a live shot of Reynolds in costume, and looks more in line with the “Thor” and “Captain America” costume “concept artwork”. Then again, I could be wrong, and this could very well be Reynolds in actual costume with CG enhancements. Remember, the GL costumes have been confirmed as being basically motion-capture suits that will be overlaid with CG in post. Update: Added five images from the movie from the EW article. Scroll beyond the cover to see them.

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan. Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

Starring Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Temuera Morrison, Jenna Craig, Jon Tenney, Tim Robbins, Angela Bassett, Taika Cohen, Jeff Wolfe, and directed by Martin Campbell.

Grab a giant green hammer June 17, 2011.

What do you think? Green Lantern-y enough for ya?

As Much as I like GL i'm not feeling that costume at all, it's a bit to alien for me.

I like the look. I think giving it texture and making it alien is a great idea as it separates him from the rest of the spandex wearing crowd. I mean it IS an alien ring. I liked what they did in “GL:First Flight” with the costumes as well, making them a biut more like a military uniform. I'd have liked that here, but this works. I miss the white gloves though. I need to see the rest of the costume though.

    i think it looks great

costume looks sweet. but i think reynolds in it looks dumb

It's not suppose to look Alien, if you follow the comics, when the ring is used it creates a outfit with simalar characteristics to other Green Lanterns (as it is a corp). It creates a link with the owner of the ring to display an outfit that matches the culture and traditions that the beareer is from.

The final test will be seeing it “on” the actor and in action, but it's good look. Reminds me of the textured “muscular” armor on Vlad Tepes in “Bram Stoker's Dracula.”

Good call EK. Love that movie.

I read the comics but if it looked exactly the way it did in the comics I'd be a little disappointed. In the comics its all drawn and other than a little change for each person the suits are still spandex looking. This looks like it is exactly what its supposed to be, a suit made of energy. Each corps member should look different and I think the suit SHOULD be otherwordly.

I think the suit looks good and he does as well as GL.

Not bad. Now I wanna see Sinestro.
