I really enjoyed Im Sang-soo’s “The Housemaid”. It’s not the sort of movie I usually gravitate towards, but I found it to extremely well-crafted and entirely engaging, despite the fact that the story moved at a snail’s pace. The director’s follow-up, the 2012 erotic thriller “The Taste of Money”, doesn’t stray too far from the dysfunction of his previous effort, and I guess that’s okay. Maybe he can make a trilogy out of it or something.
Here’s this synopsis should you need it:
Young-jak, who is a private secretary of madam PAIK, the center power of Korean conglomerate, witnesses immoral private issues of her wealthy family. Meanwhile, he finds out that madam PAIK’s husband, Mr. YOON is having affair with their Filipino housemaid, Eva. He reports what he witnessed to madam PAIK, and now despaired madam PAIK is greedily seducing Young-jak in order to keep him on her side . Young-jak is deeper into madam PAIK’s family issues when he finds out the brutally killed Eva. Lost between his morality and shortcut to successful life, he has to make the biggest decision he’s ever made, to choose whom he will hang on to, in order to survive in this harsh world, where he wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
“The Taste of Money” will feature the talents of Kim Kang-Woo, Kim Hyo-Jin, Baek Yun-Shik, Yoon Yeo-Jung, and On Joo-Wan. You can find a small collection of stills from the flick positioned below. As of this writing, a release date has not been set. I’m sure that will change soon.
