When I first saw the title for the South Korean drama “Coin Locker,” I thought it was going to be an adaptation of Japanese author Ryu Murakami’s “Coin Locker Babies,” a novel I happen to love very much. Unfortunately, it would seem that this isn’t the case. Sure, the movie has something to do with coin lockers and the children who are stuffed inside them, but apparently that’s where the similarities end. Oh, well. I’ll just keep hoping that someone is brave enough to adapt that book in the near future. Before I die, preferably.
Anyway, here’s what this particular coin locker story is about:
Sang-pil is a lazy bum addicted to gambling. Yeon wants to get away from her good-for-nothing husband, Sang-pil. Yeon puts her son into a coin locker and sells herself out on the street.
Given that a young, strapping man is running down a hallway while holding onto his lady friend’s hand, I’m assuming there will be some sort of harrowing suspense will be involved. I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see. “Coin Locker” stars Lee Young-Hoon, Son Yeo-eun, and Pyeon Bo-seung. You can find the rest of the new images below.
