First SPOILER-y Pics from the Set of Iron Man 3

The Iron Patriot Comic BookThe headline says it all, doesn’t it? SPOILER-y. As in, POTENTIAL SPOILERS. You’ve been warned.

So, what’s happening at the North Carolina set of Shane Black’s “Iron Man 3″, aka the most anticipated Marvel movie now that “The Avengers” has proven, once and for all, that ol Shellhead is the class of Marvel’s superheroes? I mean, besides this morning’s equally SPOILER-y reports?

Thanks to the fact that the film is still shooting in the States, set pics have surfaced, and it reveals the presence of …

… The Iron Patriot!

And that’s James Badge Dale in the iron suit. Previously reported to be playing a superpowered villain name Coldblood, it looks like Dale will instead play the Iron Patriot. Or maybe a combination of Iron Patriot-Coldblood. Mind you, not that I know if there’s a difference. I’m not that plugged into the whole Iron Man comic book scene or anything.

Kinda goofy looking, but I guess everything would be until the Hollywood wizards get their hands on it and slap on some shiny CG and whatnot.

“Iron Man 3″ stars Robert Downey Jr., back as Tony Stark/Iron Man, along with Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle. They are joined in the third installment by Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, and Ben Kingsley. Look for it in 2013.

So wait they’ve changed the idea of it being Firepower to making it the Iron Patriot? Hmms. This could be very interesting. Suit looks good though. Almost like an updated War Machine with new paint job.

    • Aaron Schain

He said this is the guy who was supposed to play Coldblood, not Firepower.

      • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

        My bad!

  • Juggernaut

WHOA!!! Iron Patriot?!?!?! JBD would be a really good, if not slightly younger, Norman Osbourne! I assumed that Osbourne aka Green Goblin aka Iron Patriot was owned by Sony for the Spider-Man series but who knows??? That would be really cool.
More likely Marvel has the rights to the Iron Patriot design and wanted to incorporate that iconic idea into the film. They took that design and fused it with Coldblood and viola!
    Either way, very cool news!

I’m thinking along those same lines.

  • Juggernaut

    Check this out!

I’m guessing we’ll see Chris Evans turn up in this as well. I can’t imagine they’d feature a character who so clearly references Capt America w/out squeezing in a cameo/role for Steve Rogers

    • Juggernaut

      You’d think so.

  • LionHeart

    Well…
    That was unexpected.

Definitely wasn’t expecting this, but nice move bringing in the Iron Patriot armor! I wouldn’t even begin to bring up Norman Osborne though, seriously. It’s NOT gonna happen folks, not even a small inkling of a ghost of a chance. Speculating is fruitless.

All in all, IM3 is shaping up pretty nicely already……

    • Juggernaut

Yeah, I agree. However, Dale does resemble a younger Osborn just sayin’. Lol.
I really hope that if and when Osborn shows up in a future installment of the Spider-Man reboot series he is played by Tommy Lee Jones. There are renderings of him in the comics that like Sam Jackson as Fury he looks identical to Tommy Lee Jones! If not Jones what about Josh Brolin! He did a good young TLJ in MIB III!

      • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Brolin for sure! Want a younger one but not too young. i can see Brolin playing the Goblin later. But If Brolin is Norman, who plays Harry?

        • Juggernaut

Jesse Eisenberg as Harry Osborn. Reunite him and Garfield. They could be working on a computer program for Oscorp that enables its employees to see eachothers status’ and…wait a minute, nevermind : (

          • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Lmao! That would almost work, but Eisenberg is too nerdy. How about Aaron Johnson from “Kick-Ass” He has the awkward yet pretty boy look, and he can handle action.

            Ok, THAT would be awesome

          • Juggernaut

I could definately see that! Good call!

          • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Thanks. I was trying really hard to figure it out, and as soon as you said Eisenberg i thought of Aaron. I had seen him on red carpet and was like “he played a geek?” They did a good job making him look awkward.

          • Juggernaut

It sucks that this new franchise will undoubtably re-cast characters who were portrayed by actors in the first film series perfectly like Alfred Molina as Doc Ock and J.K. Simmons as J.Jonah Jameson. It’s neccesary to distance itself from the Raimi movies but unfortunate.

          • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Indeed! They were my standalone favs in that series. oh and Rose Marie Harris as Aunt May. And it’s a series I own but as i look back see less and less of what i love of Spidey in those films sadly.

Much like the FF films. I am actually one of their biggest fans (though i wish they had done a bit more with Julian Mcmahon as Doom) I think other than Alba the casting was very good. And though i didn’t like the giant space storm for Galactus (I still maintain that was his ship, or an amospheric storm caused by the ship and he was inside where we saw his outline) I didn’t hate it either as the idea of a giant purple helmeted skirt wearing being was just wrong for me on the big screen, but I did love the Evans as Johnny, Chiklis as Ben, and Iofuld as Reed.

          • Juggernaut

Harris was a good Aunt May. I agree completely about losing my affinity for Raimi’s SM and SM 2. Obviosly SM3 was a disaster. ALthough, I thought that Thomas Hayden Church was a great choice for Sandman. He looked phenomenal in the stills and ads leading up to the movie. It’s too bad that SM3 stopped that franchise. While there were definately flaws in that series I would have liked to see some of the characters and plotlines that had been put in motion come to fruition. Dylan Baker’s Curt Connors becoming the Lizard, a relationship between Baetty Brandt and Peter, Peter and Gwen Stacy. None of that we will ever get the chance to see. Oh well.
As for the FF movies. I lump them in with other pre-Ironman Marvel films that weren’t horrible FF, FF2:ROTSS, Ghost Rider, the Blade Trilogy, Daredevil). All were decent but by no means great. I thought that the writing in the FF films were their downfall. If the tone were a bit more serious and slightly more realistic it would have worked better for me personally. Alba was a terrible choice for Sue. Everyone else was okay in their parts. Silver Surfer was done terrifiacally. Galactus wasn’t really used to his potential but could have been introduced accordingly in a sequel. An older cast all together would have been more ideal. Hopefully the FF get a reboot soon with a better script, more fitting actors for the parts and a slightly darker tone.

See I think they struck the right tone with the FF films. The comics have never been super serious. Sure they have mometns and arcs, but it’s always been about the fun of this family and the adventures and I think they actually did a decent job with that. And I agree with grouping them together that way. And how much realism can you have with that franchise which was all about sci-fi? I don’t want my FF to be dark and brooding about the seriousness of what can happen if a wormhole opens in our atmosphere. I want the fun of experincing new worlds, and dimesnions and such. I want the grandiose beautiful visuals of the Kirby years, and the more sci-fi adventure feel they’ve had in the recent years. To me not having that in an FF film and darkening it up would be like not having the humor in Spiderman or actually darkening the charcter of Superman. I hope in the FF reboot they basically follow what Marc Web has done with “Amazing Spiderman” and go back to the roots of the character and franchise. Same as Nolan has. The only difference is the subject matter. Nolan didn’t make Batman dark and gritty, he returned him to it. Batman was a character that SHOULD be dark, grity, and realsitic to a point. FF is the exact opposite. Spiderman is in the middle.

Also about the Raimi films I agree kinda, but we WILL get Peter and Gwen this time. And we may still see Betty Brant and Peter. Who knows she could come in after Gwen, but before MJ or replace MJ. She’s made a big come back in the comics recently and is currently dating Venom akak Flash Thompson.
