The totally unnecessary horror remake bandwagon continues unabated. What, did you think it was going to stop anytime soon? Perish the thought! It’ll only stop when Hollywood realizes these things don’t make money, which doesn’t seem likely anytime soon. And so, we have a remake of “The Stepfather”, one of those lesser horror franchises that you probably haven’t even heard of before. The basic premise is that a psycho goes around marrying women and trying to start a new, perfect family, and when that family stops to look perfect, he kills them and moves on. The remake stars Sela Ward as the unwitting victim of the titular stepfather’s latest attempt at utopia. I got money that it doesn’t work out.
Michael Harding (Penn Badgley) returns home from military school to find his mother (Sela Ward) happily in love and living with her new boyfriend, David (Dylan Walsh). As the two men get to know each other, Michael becomes more and more suspicious of the man who is always there with a helpful hand. Is he really the man of her dreams or could David be hiding a dark side?
Starring Penn Badgley, Amber Heard, Christopher Meloni, Sela Ward, Dylan Walsh, Jason Wiles, Jon Tenney, Sherry Stringfield, Skyler Samuels, Braeden Lemasters, and directed by Nelson McCormick, who last helmed another horror remake, “Prom Night”.
Daddy will make things alright October 16 2009.
