Although the film’s release date is still a long time off — August 25th, 2012 to be exact — Warner Japan has officially unleashed a teaser for director Keishi Ohtomo’s “Rurouni Kenshin”. The flick, of course, is an adaptation of Watsuki Nobuhiro’s manga, which was published from 1994 to 1999 in Weekly Shonen Jump. Have I read an issue of the aforementioned comic book? Not a single one. Thankfully, you don’t need to have properly investigate “Rurouni Kenshin” to enjoy the trailer embedded below. It’s pretty freaking awesome.
If, like me, you’re unfamiliar with the storyline, you should read this:
Former legendary assassin Kenshin Himura (Takeru Sato) has now become a wandering samurai. Offerring aid & protecting those in need as atonement for his past deeds. During this time comes across and aides Kaoru Kamiya (Emi Takei). Her father opened the Kamiya Kasshin-ryu, a kendo school located in Tokyo and Kaoru is now an instructor there. Kaoru then invites Kenshin to stay at her dojo. Their relationship develops furhter, but Kenshin is still haunted by his violent past.
“Rurouni Kenshin” also stars Taketo Tanaka, Munetaka Aoki, Yu Aoi, Yosuke Eguchi, Koji Kikkawa, and Teruyuki Kagawa. Look for it in Japanese theaters next year.
