First Trailer for Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar Reveals the Man Behind the Badge

Leonardo DiCaprio in J. Edgar (2011) Movie Image

Clint Eastwood’s biopic of FBI chief, innovative crimefighter, and possible cross dresser J. Edgar Hoover gets its very first trailer, which you can take a gander at below. Looks like the movie basically covers all of Hoover’s life and career, and even takes a stab or two at Hoover’s possible — though apparently never proven i.e. in photos, videos, etc — romantic entanglements with the same sex. I.e. Was he gay or not? The film seems to say Yes, though I expect that to be mostly cursory stuff. The film looks pretty sleek, well done, and respectable, like all Eastwood movies. Then again, I don’t suppose Eastwood was ever going to do a movie where Hoover hopped off rooftops with Tommy guns ablazin’, though that would have been cool, too.

J. Edgar explores the public and private life of one of the most powerful, controversial and enigmatic figures of the 20th century. As the face of law enforcement in America for almost fifty years, J. Edgar Hoover was feared and admired, reviled and revered. But behind closed doors, he held secrets that would have destroyed his image, his career and his life.

The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Naomi Watts, Judi Dench, Armie Hammer, Josh Lucas, and Ken Howard.

Bugging theaters November 9th, 2011.
