Here’s the plot for David Brooks’ “ATM”:
On a late night visit to an ATM, three coworkers end up in a desperate fight for their lives when they become trapped by an unknown man.
So, you may ask, how does three people end up “trapped” inside an ATM by one lunatic? As it turns out, this is one of those fancy ATM places that’s surrounded by, like, an enclosed, glass office or some such. Mind you, I’ve been to a gazillion ATMs in my life, and I’ve never actually seen an ATM like this one before, but never you mind that.
The film stars Alice Eve, Josh Peck and Brian Geraghty, and the trailer certainly looks high concept enough, if a tad silly. I’m thinking the film’s real entertainment value is how they’re going to actually manage to keep the three people inside for the entire movie without eliciting a chuckle (or guffaw) or two from the audience.
The script, by the by, is from Chris Sparling, who also wrote the Ryan Reynolds trapped-in-a-box-for-the-whole-movie film “Buried”. Up next for Sparling, “John”, where a man name John is trapped inside a public toilet as he’s terrorized by masked men. Just kidding, Chris.
No word on a release date, but I’m guessing direct-to-DVD/VOD after, possibly, a short stint in limited release. Or not. It’s much cheaper and more lucrative to do the DVD/VOD route nowadays with smaller thrillers.
