“Vehicle 19” is one of those “contained thrillers” — that is, its big gimmick is that we, the audience, only knows/sees what the main character knows/sees at any given time during the film. You know the drill — Ryan Reynolds in a coffin, Stephen Dorff in the trunk of a car, and now, Paul Walker behind the wheel of a rental vehicle. It’s apparently set inside and around the car (though it seems to take some liberties in this regard) following Walker’s character as he tries to get himself out of a major jam involving guys with guns and a girl stuffed into his back seat. Good luck there, fella.
Here’s the first trailer for “Vehicle 19”, from writer/director Mukunda Michael Dewil.
A foreign traveler (Walker) unknowingly picks up a rental car that will tie him to a web of corrupt local police.
The film also stars Naima McLean, Gys de Villiers, Leyla Haidarian, and Andrian Mazive, though I haven’t a clue who is who. Besides Walker, the cast seems to be made up of local South Africans.
Look for it in 2013 or thereabouts.
