First Trailer for Starz’ Torchwood: Miracle Day

“Torchwood”, for those of you who don’t know, is a “Doctor Who” spin-off show starring John Barrowman, who plays the time-traveling Captain Jack Harkness. The character first showed up in “Doctor Who”, and proved so popular that he was spun off into his own show, “Torchwood”, essentially a secret organization in the UK that fights alien invasion and the like. Now the show is coming to America, and has become a Starz original show with the old UK crew back (Barrowman and Eve Myles), but with an additional American presence in Mekhi Phifer (“8 Miles”) and Bill Pullman (“Independence Day”), playing the show’s Big Bad. Check out the first full domestic trailer for it below.

“Torchwood: Miracle Day” begins with a day when nobody dies. The result: a population boom, overnight. With all the extra people, resources are finite. It’s said that in four month’s time, the human race will cease to be viable. But this can’t be a natural occurrence – someone’s got to be behind it. It’s a race against time as C.I.A. agent Rex Matheson investigates a global conspiracy. The answers lie within an old, secret British institute. As Rex keeps asking “What is Torchwood?,” he’s drawn into a world of adventure, and a threat to change what it means to be human, forever.

“Miracle Day” premieres on the Starz Channel July 8th at 10pm ET/PT, and stars John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Kai Owen, Mekhi Phifer, Alexa Havins and Bill Pullman.

Recurring stars include Arlene Tur (“Crash”) and Lauren Ambrose (“Six Feet Under”). The 10-episode, hour-long series will also feature guest stars Wayne Knight (“Seinfeld”), C. Thomas Howell (“Southland”), Ernie Hudson (“OZ”), Nana Visitor (“Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”), John DeLancie (“Star Trek: The Next Generation”), Mare Winningham and Frances Fisher.

anyone know if this show will air on BBC or any channels other than Starz?

It will air on both Starz and the BBC, though Starz might get it first.

It looks so different from the other 3 series.

We also better get it aired in the UK before or at the same time as the US.
