First Trailer for The Raid 2: Berandal Finds Iko Uwais Punching the Walls

Writer-director Gareth Evans’ “The Raid 2: Berandal” is a movie I can’t stop obsessing over. The first installment of the series is arguably one of the finest action movies ever created. In my book, it’s up there with director John Woo’s Hong Kong classic “Hard Boiled.” Thankfully, I think the next installment could be as fantastic as the original.

While the first trailer for the upcoming sequel leaves you with more questions than answers, it’s still a fantastic teaser for what could be a breathtaking follow-up. The plot details are few and far between — the movie reportedly takes place two hours after the events found in “The Raid” — but it’s clear that our hero has his work cut out for him. The clip also begs the question: Why is Rama locked in a cell? And who is the girl covered in blood?

What in the hell is going on?!

Right now it’s unknown when “The Raid 2: Berandal” will hit screens in North America. Hopefully the wait won’t be too long, though chances are countless fans will import the Blu-ray long before it receives a domestic release date. While you’re impatiently waiting for more information about the flick to pop up online, take a good look at the trailer below. Keep some Advil handy, because it’s gonna rock your tender brain.

“The Raid 2: Berandal” hits theaters in Indonesia next year.

Todd was raised on a steady diet of Hollywood blockbusters, late-night Cinemax programming, and USA’s “Up All Night,” which may explain why his taste in movies is more than a little questionable. When he isn’t providing news and reviews for Beyond Hollywood, he can be found lounging lazily on his couch, perched in front of his television, or dwelling in places where direct sunlight can be easily avoided. He's happily married, in his 30's, and totally badass. If you'd like to reach Todd, you can follow him on Twitter or send him email/scoops to todd (at)

The Raid did good numbers in theaters here in North America in its limited release. $4 million. We should get Berandal in theaters long before the Blu-ray comes out.

I certainly hope so. I purchased an import copy of “The Raid” before it arrived in my neck of the woods. Took the film a little longer to find its way into the wilds of Kentucky.
