The more I see about “ParaNorman”, the new stop-motion animated 3D feature from LAIKA, the folks behind “Coraline”, the more it looks like something really fun. A new TV spot, embedded below, has started airing, and further confirms these feelings.
“ParaNorman” is about a young boy named Norman who can talk to the dead and sees ghosts all around him. True to form, he is an outcast, the weird kid, but his peculiar skills come in handy when zombies attack his cursed town. Ha. Who do they always turn to when the undead come calling? It’s always the one they just called a freak, isn’t it? Comeuppance!
“ParaNorman” looks spooky and funny, like the kind of kids movie that doesn’t treat kids like idiots, where the protagonist may be in actual danger. There are witches and monsters and spirits galore, which sounds like a good time to me.
Only the second stop-motion film to come out in 3D, “ParaNorman” stars the voices of Kodi Smit-McPhee, Anna Kendrick, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, John Goodman, Leslie Mann, and Casey Affleck. Sam Fell and Chris Butler (who also wrote the script) direct.
“ParaNorman” shambles into theaters August 17, 2012.
