Maybe it’s just me running on very little sleep and extreme caffeine-induced paranoia, but I’m starting to see a large number of low-budget features that eerily resemble the sort of mindless, Cinemax-approved action flicks I grew up on. If “Wrong Side of Town” is to “Jungleground,” then Matt Dean’s upcoming fantasy epic “Legend of the Red Reaper” is to “Deathstalker.” Or, possibly, “Beastmaster.” Whatever the case, the film appears to be an outrageous slice of shlock, though this, I feel, is part of its wonky charm. Do keep in mind, however, that this article was penned by someone who holds “Troll 2” and “Krull” very close to his misshapen heart. In other words, your opinion of the embedded trailer will, more than likely, vary. It’s best to be upfront about these things.
Here’s what it’s all about:
For a thousand years, the Reapers guarded mankind from the demons that wait in the dark. Now, at the beginning of a new age, the Reapers are betrayed and slaughtered. Only one Reaper remains – Red, and she’s out to exact revenge.
“Legend of the Red Reaper” is currently scheduled to dazzle your tender senses on March 10th. Your respective calendars should be marked accordingly.
