The “Men in Black” franchise is an odd duck. I like it enough, but I don’t love it. It’s always entertaining, but it’s never been especially great, even the first movie. But people seem to love it. Don’t believe me? Combined, the two films in the series so far have made a combined $1 billion worldwide. And it’s not as if Sony was fast with the sequels. It took them five years just to do “Men in Black 2” in 2002, and it’s now taken them 10 years to do “Men in Black 3”. Will the audience still be there 10 years later? I get the feeling yes. From these five clips below, “Men in Black 3” looks and feels exactly like the first two movies, except everyone is older. Except, well, for Will Smith. I swear, dude never ages.
Taking place 15 years after Agent J was first recruited into the super secret alien-enforcement agency Men in Black, the third time ’round finds Agent J going back in time in order to save Agent K and the world — by teaming up with a younger version of Agent K in the past. Alien shenanigans and other assorted Tomfoolery, we presume, ensue.
Starring Will Smith, Alice Eve, Emma Thompson, Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin, Bill Hader, Nicole Scherzinger, Jemaine Clement, Michael Stuhlbarg, and directed by Barry Sonnenfeld.
Time’s up May 25, 2012.
