Footage from Brandon Routh’s Dylan Dog Finally Surfaces in the Bayou

I’m getting a pretty big direct-to-DVD vibe out of Brandon Routh’s new horror comic book movie “Dylan Dog”, aka “Dead of Night”, which seems like it’s been in production forever. The film is being directed by Kevin Munroe of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” fame, and stars former Superman himself Routh as the titular Dylan Dog, a supernatural private dick who solves supernatural crimes in his Louisiana bayou, usually wearing his signature red shirt, black jacket, and blue jeans.

The film co-stars Peter Stormare, Sam Huntington, Taye Diggs, Anita Briem, and Kurt Angle, and if this Italian news broadcast (via STYD) is any indication, will probably show up overseas first before it finally arrives in the States. I’m still going to guess direct-to-DVD. The Italian debut makes sense given the character’s Italian origins.

Direct-to-DVD sounds about right. They finished production a year ago. Since then, they’ve just been sitting there, trying to get some distribution. They’ve sold ONE territory after shopping it worldwide: Italy. It is basically an extended Buffy episode, with Buffy being a guy now. One of the Buffy producers is even producing this film too, so that is no coincidence.
