Ever since it was announced that the “Sin City” sequel would focus on Frank Miller’s “A Dame to Kill For” storyline, the one question on everyone’s mind has been: Who will play Ava Lord? That question got louder with each subsequent casting for the movie, because, well, we never found out who was going to play Eva Lord.
The obvious choice was Angelina Jolie, and I would be very surprised if Rodriguez didn’t try everything he could to get her for the role in his and Miller’s current in-production “Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For”. Failing with Jolie, a former Bond girl isn’t such a bad second choice.
Dimension Films is officially announcing the casting of Eva Green as Ava Lord, the “dame” of the film’s title. Ava is described by Miller as “every man’s most glorious dreams come true, she’s also every man’s darkest nightmares.”
The co-directors have this to say of Green’s casting in the pivotal role:
We’ve been wanting to tell this story for a very long time. Ava Lord is one of the most deadly and fascinating residents of Sin City. From the start, we knew that the actor would need to be able to embody the multifaceted characteristics of this femme fatale and we found that in Eva Green. We are ecstatic that Eva is joining us.
“Sin City: A Dame to Kill’s” cast includes original cast members Mickey Rourke as “Marv,” Jessica Alba as “Nancy,” Bruce Willis as Hartigan, Rosario Dawson as “Gail” and Jaime King as “Goldie/Wendy” with new cast members Josh Brolin as “Dwight,” Joseph Gordon-Levitt as “Johnny,” Dennis Haysbert as “Manute,” Christopher Meloni as “Mort,” Jeremy Piven as “Bob,” Jamie Chung as “Miho,” Ray Liotta as “Joey,” Juno Temple as “Sally,” and Julia Garner as “Marcy.”
As for the plot of “A Dame to Kill For”, it will weave together two of Miller’s classic stories with new tales in which, we’re told, “the town’s most hard boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more repulsive inhabitants.”
Rodriguez and Miller have been shooting the film on and off, depending on the actors’ schedules, down in Rodriguez’s hometown of Austin, Texas since last year.
