Fox Considering Daredevil Sequels and a Deadpool Movie

Last Friday, Variety ran an article about how movie studio Twentieth Century Fox (yes, those same guys again) are looking at a variety of options to boost their company’s profit margins in the summer — i.e. their movies are stinking up the joint, and the dough ain’t coming in like it used to. Of course, putting out craptacular fare like “Meet Dave”, “The Rocker”, and “Babylon A.D.” didn’t help matters. Yeah, an expensive Eddie Murphy movie. That’s exactly what the people wanted to see, Fox. Great thinking there, no wonder you failed to get “Watchmen” made.

As a result, the studio is now looking at a couple of potential superhero titles — a “Deadpool” movie that would spin-off Ryan Reynolds’ appearance in the upcoming “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” movie, and a possible return to “Daredevil”, which was released in 2003 and starred Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner. The film didn’t exactly burn up the box office, but it did decent business, and spawned a spin-off movie for Garner’s Elektra character. That movie, alas, bombed.

Here’s Variety with the highlighted parts (via Joblo, who noticed the interesting parts yesterday):

Though Fox has no plans for a major overhaul, the studio has scheduled a strategy meeting to assess the status of its superheroes, a group sorely missed this summer. On the agenda, Fox will mull the possibility of more “X-Men” spinoffs, including a young-X-Men project as well as “Deadpool,” based on a character played by Ryan Reynolds in “Wolverine.” The studio is even considering reviving the “Daredevil” property.

To be honest with you, I liked “Daredevil” more than most people did. It was really one of Ben Affleck’s better movies, and the guy has had — well, okay, it was probably the only Ben Affleck movie I saw that I didn’t want to punch myself in the face for having lured myself into seeing it in the first place. A return to the world Matt Murdock would be cool. Likewise with the “Deadpool” movie. Who hasn’t wanted to see Ryan Reynolds kick some serious ass as the merc with the mouth since he basically played the same character, minus the red suit, in “Blade: Trinity”?

Bring on more Daredevil and a Deadpool movie. Time to make up for sitting on “Watchmen” for all those years, Fox.

Below: “So, er, you work out or something?”

I would love to see another Daredevil movie, or two. There sure are plenty of stories they could use, and personally, i thought Affleck was pretty good in the role. Brian Benis’ run produced some GREAT material that would make a GREAT movie. Everybody’s got to vote with their dollar, pick it up on Blu Ray when it comes out if you are interested in seeing a sequel. And I hope the studio learns a lesson from the director’s cut, just let the director make the movie and leave the studio to what they do best, pay for it, and thats it.

I think that a deadpool movie spinoff would be the better way to go. The x men origins movie kindof screwed up the part of deadpool but if this movie was made it would likely be an action comedy thriller. They should get Bruce Campbell to play cable. With deadpools breaking the 4th wall and being aware that he is a comic book character or in this case a movie character it would definitely have to be a comedy. Even at the post credits of the wolverine movie he breaks the 4th wall and shhh’s the crowd. I do not like the daredevil movie. I think that another would be a bust.the best option would be to have deadpool play a mercenary bad guy with a heroic side that expresses the true nature of his heart

I seriously liked the Daredevil movie. I thought it was one of the best roles that Affleck has ever played. Honestly I wasn’t thrilled with Jennifer Garner as Elektra, and the whole concept of a black Kingpin was just kind of throwed off, even though Michael Clark Duncan was awesome. If there’s going to be a Daredevil sequel, however, the only thing I can say is BRING BACK COLIN FARRELL. Colin was the ultimate Bullseye. As to the Deadpool movie, my sources have confirmed that it is indeed in the works, and YES, Ryan Reynolds will reprise the role. I just hope that when the movie comes out they don’t screw it up, DeadpooL does NOT need to be a flop, the character is waaaay too bad-ass. I think the only way that this is going to happen, though, is if Fox has nothing to do with it.

The Daredevil movie is actually my favorite superhero movie so far. especially the uncut version. Affleck just played him in a very human way and it worked. i love the idea of a Deadpool movie and i’m not thousandth person to say, perfectly casted.

what’s also cool is that the people that make all those x-men games and marvel ultimate alliance,Raven, have a huge man crush on deadpool, and want to make a game about him based on the comics. based on what they did for the wolverine movie tie-in game. it seems promising. also the idea of Bruce Campbell playing Cable, amazing.

Um Bruce Cambell as Cable…no. Cable has very little sense of humor, and an even smaller ego. Sorry Love me some Bruce but that’s just wrong casting I agree that Daredevil is a seriously underated superhero flick. I loved the casting of it…ok maybe loved was a strong word. And if they can’t get Affleck back for a sequel I’m sure there’s someone who can pull it off but it has to be dark and gritty, more so than the first I think.

Deadpool well yeah that’s a given. I can’t wait to see him done properly in the meantime for all those looking for real Deadpool on film…Hulk Vs.!
