Fox Reportedly Wants to Pay Hugh Jackman $100 Million to Play Wolverine 4 More Times

Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in X-Men (2001) Movie ImageNo, really!

Or at least, that’s according to The National Enquirer (via Flickering Myth), who reports a “close pal” of Jackman as telling them that Fox has made a stunning $100 million dollar offer to the Aussie actor if he will sign on the dotted line to play Wolverine in four more movies.

Although the article actually says the $100 million is for “four more Wolverine movies”, but I’m just guessing what they really meant is four more movies as Wolverine. Because damn, it doesn’t make sense that Fox thinks they can squeeze in four more Wolverine movies before Jackman gets too old, especially since he’s already 44 now, and as we all know, Wolverine don’t age, thanks to that healing factor of his.

Obviously this story sounds incredibly fishy, and I really do think that if there’s even a remote chance this story is true, it’s for Jackman to play Wolverine in four movie movies and not in four more Wolverine movies. But would they be willing to pony up $100 million for that? Dunno.

Anyone who has seen the bootleg trailer for Bryan Singer’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past” knows you could probably call that a Wolverine-heavy “X-Men” movie, since he’s all over it, and he drives the story.

What can I say? Wolverine is popular, in the comics and in the movies. Folks just love a dude with metal claws that can pop out of his knuckles whenever he gets pissed off.

Jackman’s latest appearance as Wolverine, by the way, has now made just over $300 million worldwide. Which isn’t bad, but still trails 2009’s much-derided “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, which capped off at $373 million. So it’s not like Jackman as Wolverine is bringing in Robert Downey Jr. bucks here, which is just another reason why this story is most likely bunk.
