Fox Sets Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and X-Men: First Class 2 for 2014

X-Men: First Class (2011) Movie Poster20th Century Fox has released official dates for some of their big titles in the coming years, and while we all know “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” is coming next year, we weren’t sure when Matthew Vaughn’s “X-Men: First Class” sequel would land, or what Fox would eventually end up calling the sequel to Rupert Wyatt’s “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”.

Now we know both things.

Vaughn’s as-yet-untitled “X-Men: First Class” sequel will be due July 18, 2014, while the sequel to “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”, now officially called “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”, will arrive two months earlier than the muties, on May 23, 2014.

Until then, you’ll be able to catch’s re-release of Roland Emmerich’s “Independence Day” with its shiny new coat of 3D on July 3rd, 2013. “ID4″ was one of the few movies that I actually saw twice in theaters when it first opened way back in 1996. What can I say? Back then I was a lot more gullible. Nowadays, watching “ID4″ on TV makes me cringe. It has really not aged well at all. Not only that, but the film’s writing always manages to make me feel this absurd embarrassment for the actors. I know, like they care, right?

Other films of note: the aforementioned “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” is opening August 16, 2013, while Steven Spielberg’s “Robopocalypse” is set for April 25, 2014.

Cool Stories From Zergnet

I really liked Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes and am looking forward to the follow up. More than likely the cast from the first film won’t be returning but I’m exited to see where that story goes. I’m even more pumped for Vaughn’s next “X” film! I can’t wait to see where he takes the returning characters and can’t wait to see who else he brings in! Hopefully we see most of the cast from the first film back for the movie. I hope we finally see Sinister done. There are so many characters and possibilities!

Typo on the date for Dawn, Nix.

And I see they didn’t learn their lesson about naming for the sequel. Oh well, that movie was far better than I expected, so can’t wait, and the same goes for First Class (which was far, far, far, faaaaaaaar better than expected, but it helps when your expectations are so low you figure Hamlet 2 is going to be a fonder memory).

      Corrected, thanks.

I feel the same way about both of these movies. I didn’t care much about “Apes” either way. I was never a huge fan of the original film series so I wasn’t really invested. “First Class” on the other hand I was intentionally pecimistic about. After XOW my expectation level was so low that I was going in with a defeatist attitude. However, that movie completely blew me away. It is now my favorite “X” film to date and the one that I’ve watched most. That’s saying something since I love the original three movies. Yes, even “The Last Stand” and have seen each of them at least forty or fifty times each.

Yeah “First Class” was awesome! The best X-men movie in my opinion hands down as it felt like a true X-men film, not “Wolverine” featuring the X-men. Can’t wait. Also can’t wait to see what they do with the Apes.
