20th Century Fox has released official dates for some of their big titles in the coming years, and while we all know “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” is coming next year, we weren’t sure when Matthew Vaughn’s “X-Men: First Class” sequel would land, or what Fox would eventually end up calling the sequel to Rupert Wyatt’s “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”.
Now we know both things.
Vaughn’s as-yet-untitled “X-Men: First Class” sequel will be due July 18, 2014, while the sequel to “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”, now officially called “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”, will arrive two months earlier than the muties, on May 23, 2014.
Until then, you’ll be able to catch’s re-release of Roland Emmerich’s “Independence Day” with its shiny new coat of 3D on July 3rd, 2013. “ID4″ was one of the few movies that I actually saw twice in theaters when it first opened way back in 1996. What can I say? Back then I was a lot more gullible. Nowadays, watching “ID4″ on TV makes me cringe. It has really not aged well at all. Not only that, but the film’s writing always manages to make me feel this absurd embarrassment for the actors. I know, like they care, right?
Other films of note: the aforementioned “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” is opening August 16, 2013, while Steven Spielberg’s “Robopocalypse” is set for April 25, 2014.
