Yesterday it was reported that Fox was pulling out all of the stops to get in business with Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov, and adapt Seth Grahame-Smith’s macabre novel “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”. When the filmmakers showed up on the Fox lot to meet with executives they were met with bloody footprints, giant banners, and a Confederate soldier playing “Taps” on a bugle.
With Sony, Paramount, Universal, and Summit all in the running, the project became one of the hottest properties in Hollywood. Apparently all of Fox’s stunts and monkeyshines worked, since just a few minutes after we found out about them, the studio emerged victorious from the battle for the “Vampire Hunter”.
The book tells the tale of the 16th President as an axe-wielding, vampire slayer. Bloodsuckers killed his mother, so he unleashes his vengeance upon them and their slave-owning protectors. Think “Buffy” in a stovepipe hat and chin strap beard.
The 3D production is set to begin next March, and will be the first movie for Bekmambetov since “Wanted”.
