Frank Miller on The Spirit: Lots of Fights, No Tights

Written by Nix | May 24th, 2007 | 0 Comments |

The Hollywood Reporter recently caught up with Frank Miller in Cannes and asked him about the Spirit, and has hosted a view of the interview on their Cannes page here. (Scroll down to the middle and click on the “Cannes: Frank Miller” choice) Frank doesn’t really say a whole lot about “The Spirit”, except confirming Samuel L. Jackson as The Octopus (the movie’s villain), and re-iterating that his movie is going to have “lots of fights, no tights”, which makes me feel a whole lot better, because I was somewhat worried he was going to play the movie as camp. Miller also says he doesn’t have anyone in mind as the Spirit yet, and they’re still searching. Best of all, Miller shows great appreciation for Will Eisner, the Spirit’s creator, so that means he isn’t going to ruin the movie with some crazy ideas.

I’m personally not a big fan of The Spirit, as I’ve never really followed his adventures, but I am a big fan of Miller’s works (heck, I even think his current run on the interminably late “All-Star Batman and Robin” is kinda cool), so I am looking forward to this.
