“What kind of grown ass man calls himself Puffy”? You know what, Notorious B.I.G.’s mother, I ask myself that every time I see P. Diddy’s ridiculously self-important ass on the TV. But I digress. The full-length first trailer for “Notorious”, the biopic on the late Notorious B.I.G. (that means you already know how this is gonna end, kiddos) has arrived online, and I gotta admit, this thing looks like it could be good. I mean, really good. Better than, say, that crappy “ghetto movie” with Jessica Alba, or the one where the kids “step up” by dancing in sync like their favorite boy bands. Better than all that, yo yo, as the kids would say.
In just a few short years, The Notorious B.I.G. rose from the streets of Brooklyn to become one of the most influential hip hop artists of all time. B.I.G. was a gifted storyteller; his narratives about violent life on the streets were told with a gritty, objective realism that won him enormous respect and credibility. His stories were universal and gave a voice to his generation.
Starring Angela Bassett, Derek Luke, Antonique Smith, Naturi Naughton, Dennis White, and directed by George Tillman Jr.
The big man arrives in theaters January 16, 2009.
