Full Trailer for Megamind Looks Surprisingly Funny

Yahoo! Movies has debuted the first full trailer for Will Ferrell and Brad Pitt’s upcoming animated CG superhero movie “Megamind”, aka that other movie about an evil supervillain who becomes a good guy that isn’t called “Despicable Me”. Unlike “Despicable Me”, though, which seems to be going for a sly, even endearing family movie, “Megamind” seems intent on living and dying by Will Ferrell’s ability to make you laugh. In any case, it doesn’t look nearly as terrible as I thought it would, so there’s some promise there. It also doesn’t spoil the film’s “what happens when the bad guy finally wins” angle, which the synopsis below pretty much gives away. Love the whole “Superman” angle too, by the by.

Megamind is the most brilliant supervillain the world has ever known. And the least successful. Over the years, he has tried to conquer Metro City in every imaginable way. Each attempt, a colossal failure thanks to the caped superhero known as ‘Metro Man,’ an invincible hero until the day Megamind actually kills him in the throes of one of his botched evil plans. Suddenly, Megamind has no purpose. A supervillain without a superhero. He realizes that achieving his life’s ambition is the worst thing that ever happened to him. Megamind decides that the only way out of his rut is to create a new hero opponent called ‘Titan,’ who promises to be bigger, better and stronger than Metro Man ever was. Pretty quickly Titan starts to think it’s much more fun to be a villain than a good guy. Except Titan doesn’t just want to rule the world, he wants to destroy it. Now, Megamind must decide: can he defeat his own diabolical creation? Can the world’s smartest man make the smart decision for once? Can the evil genius become the unlikely hero of his own story?

Starring Brad Pitt, Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, Jonah Hill, and directed by Tom McGrath.

Get evil November 5, 2010.

I like the play on the Superman origin and stuff, but it still left me flat. I'm still gonna have to go with “Dispicable Me.” I don't know if it's Will Ferrell that does it or what but it just doesn't seem that funy to me.

Yeah, it's heavily Will Ferrell-dependent. If I didn't know the hero was Brad Pitt going in, I wouldn't have thought that was him. But Ferrell is instantly recognizable.

Hm, it'll be fun to see Pitt do some comedy again.
