It’s hard to believe that Sadako has been horrifying moviegoers in one medium or another for over 20 years. Although she disappeared for a brief period during the 2000s, the little girl from the well is back in full swing. Tsutomu Hanabusa’s follow-up to last year’s “Sadako 3D” is getting ready to invade theaters across Japan next month. Judging from the trailer, the sequel isn’t deviating too far from the stuff audiences encountered in the reboot.
Is that a bad thing? Well, that depends on what you’re looking for in a horror movie. If long black hair, the internet, and jump scares amuse you, then “Sadako 3D 2” will probably fit the bill. The franchise only bears a passing resemblance to Hideo Nakata’s 1998 classic, but I guess the series is trying to appeal to a new generation. For better or for worse.
Here’s what you can expect from the sequel:
Fuko Ando is a 24-years-old graduate student in psychology. She is tasked to take care of her 4-year-old niece. Soon, mysterious events occur around her niece. She then learns of an incident involving a cursed video that took place 5 years earlier. Fuko Ando finds herself involved with the cursed video.
“Sadako 3D 2” stars Miori Takimoto, Koji Seto, Kokoro Hirasawa, Satomi Ishihara, Yusuke Yamamoto, and Ryosei Tayama. Moviegoers in Japan can check out the flick on August 30, 2013. The full trailer will try to creep you out below.
