I’ll be honest with you — nothing I’ve seen of Disney’s “John Carter” has convinced me the film will be anything special. If anything, it looks pretty much like your standard SyFy Channel original movie of the week, but with a bigger budget, though you might not immediately know that from the film’s heavily brown, desert-y background. Of course, the fact that I know nothing of the original Edgar Rice Burroughs books probably don’t help, but then again, I suspect neither will 99% of the film’s potential audience.
Having said that, this new minute-long trailer for “John Carter” probably does the best selling of all the previous trailers. It has that funky, fun vibe about it that makes sense given we’re dealing with four-armed Martians that apparently know how to speak English. Taylor Kitsch, who I’m still not convinced has leading man potential in him, looks amusing in the “fish out of water” elements of the film. I wonder if the trailer was initial released on Disney’s TV channels? It has that “Hey, kids, look, this movie can be fun!” feel to it.
The sci-fi film also co-stars Lynn Collins, Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Daryl Sabara, Polly Walker, Bryan Cranston, Thomas Hayden Church, Willem Dafoe, and is directed by Andrew Stanton.
John and his four-armed pals arrive March 9, 2012.
