THR reports that Jon M. Chu’s flick is now scheduled to hit theaters on June 29, 2012 instead of the film’s original release date of August 10, 2012. And the reason behind the switch? That’s due to the fact that J.J. Abrams won’t be able to make the date for the release for his “Star Trek 2″ film in time so instead Paramount has given the date to “Joe”.
“G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes” is set to star Channing Tatum, Ray Park, Cobra Byung-hun Lee, along with Dwayne Johnson, Elodie Yung, RZA, D.J. Catrona, Ray Stevenson, and Adrianne Palicki. Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing.
Meanwhile, the “Star Trek“ sequel that will likely begin production in January and either be dated for release for the fourth quarter of 2012 or summer 2013. Abrams hasn’t formally committed and hasn’t approved a script yet, but the studio has exercised its option on the cast and they will be ready when Abrams is.
UPDATE: The second “Joe” movie will no longer be called “G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes”, and will instead be called “G.I. Joe: Retaliation”. - Nix
