Looks like everything’s coming up roses for the “G.I. Joe” sequel. At least if you’re a fan of the original; I’m something like half a fan — I love everything involving Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, and the female characters in tight black leather outfits. Everything else? Eh, I could do without.
The Paramount sequel currently has a director attached in Jon Chu, and stars like Ray Park and Lee Byung-hun have confirmed their return as Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow, respectively. (Okay, so that Duke guy is also back too, if, you know, you’re a fan of his or something.)
With everything set for a 2012 release date or thereabouts, the questions remaining are: when are they shooting, where, and what’s the official title?
According to Nola.com in an article from earlier this month, the answers to those questions are, in order: beginning August and shooting through November, in Crescent City, New Orleans, and “G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes”.
But, um, there’s a catch. After reporting all of the above, the same Nola.com article then goes on to say that nothing is confirmed, including the the shooting dates, the shooting locations, and even the shooting title. So it could all be true … or not.
In any case, “G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes” sounds like a decent enough title. It’s certainly no worse than “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra”. And since the Cobra has already risen, certainly it’ll now strike, no?
Thanks to reader Pete for the heads up.
