Larry Mendte is really, really, REALLY interested in his former co-anchor’s personal life. And really, can we blame him? Alycia Lane is what the kids call smoking hot, even for an anchorwoman, a species of human females known for their devilish good looks and near-perfect hairstyle and make-up. Larry was so obsessed with finding anything that could destroy Alycia that he snuck into her computer and read her emails for two years and leaking personal information to gossip tabloids in an attempt to destroy her cause, apparently, because she made more money than him and people seem really interested in her for some reason. But it would appear “getting” Lane has costed Mendte more — perhaps his freedom, as he’s just been arrested Monday.
This thing is out of this world whack. Here’s more on it:
Mendte and Alycia Lane co-anchored the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts for just over four years but were apparently rivals because Lane had a higher salary.
Lane was fired after her personal life, including an arrest in New York for assaulting a police officer, became tabloid fodder.
Federal prosecutors said Lane came to suspect that details of her life were being leaked to the Philadelphia Daily News.
Mendte was charged Monday with a felony count of intentionally accessing a protected computer without authorization.
“The mere accessing and reading of privileged information is criminal,” acting U.S. attorney Laurie Magid said. “This case, however, went well beyond just reading someone’s e-mail.”
Mendte’s lawyer, Michael Schwartz, said his client has been co-operating with police on the investigation.
Mendte has been off the air since May 29, when police searched his home and seized a computer.
God bless local news. And of course, Alycia Lane. Seriously, when is she going to take it off for Playboy already? You know it’s coming…
