The original “Blade Runner” (1982) is a seminal work of science fiction, but to tell you the truth, I am not entirely enamored with it. And this is speaking as a big fan of sci-fi movies. There’s something about the film, perhaps a slowness (or should I say, dullness) that doesn’t make me list it as among the best sci-fi movies I’ve ever seen. (James Cameron’s “Aliens” tops that list, in case you were wondering.) But I can admit that “Blade Runner” was incredible in many respects, not least of which for providing the inspiration for a slew of sci-fi movies to come. But anyways, there is news that director Ridley Scott is apparently reshooting new scenes for the film’s 25th anniversary DVD edition. Why? I don’t know, I guess there are still things he want to change, even 25 years later. I say, let it go, man.
In the futuristic-set “Blade Runner”, Harrison Ford plays a cop who pursues “replicants”, artificial humanoids who have come back to Earth after being created to work offworld. Rutger Hauer, in a breakthrough role, played the leader of the replicants, and Sean Young played a young woman assigned to assist him.
